Hi Az, not that I can bring anything constructive to the table, but thought I'd share my experiences with the Q3 - highly recommend if your friend will end up buying one as the Q1 isn't bike to bike compatible according to Scala's list :

I have found the Q3 to be exceptional, and exceeded my expectations (especially as I had experience using Nolan's BT built in set, which was far from cheap), i ended up buying a spare for my pillion helmet...it's that good. The bad side is the price, however Saverstore.com (after a quick google search) do the multi set for under £220 - delivered.

I have the F3MC and use it for my pillion (g/friend). The sound is clear, works on a naked bike up to around 50mph, after which I can't hear her screaming, battery life lasts forever, pairs well with a phone (which is rubbish).
My recommendation:
It's a good piece of kit for a pillion but now she can nag the cr@p out of me. Wish I'd never bought the d@mn thing.
It's well under budget and I bought one for £100 at a show. ____________________ FZR400 (blown engine), ZXR750 (blown engine), ZX6R (accident), CBR600 which had engine issues after which I learned to change gear..., CBR900, CBR924 (stolen), CB600, CB1300 (everything blew up), BMW K1300GT (written off, hit from rear while stationary), Bandit 1250 for a couple of months, Triumph Sprint ST 1050 (nicked) and somewhere in there, I wrote off a Ducati 748 at Cadwell. |

(first off I want to add that I use silicone custom ear monitors with my helmet, but having said that)... I have used my Q3 at around 150mph (on private road officer), and I can hear and be heard, so IMHO it's more than practical for motorway comfort... At the NEC, I believe they were about £130 if memory serves me correct. So not far off, but that is for a solo unit. ____________________ If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough.
