Hi guys

2001 CG125 with kickstart only CDI engine.

She was running absolutely beautifully until she was left unused for approx 2 weeks now she will only run with the choke in the second position (choke has 3 positions, off, on and extreme) even when fully warm switching to off results in her cutting out.

nothing has phyiscally been changed and the only difference is that she was laid up for 2 weeks.

Seems fairly obvious its some kind of fuelling issue but what are my best course of actions?

It sounds like condensation in the float chamber.

Just drain it off into a container and see what appears. Then leave the fuel tap on for a while so as to wash it through Thumbs Up

If all else fails then check the pilot jet

Possible air leak at the carb. Like the inlet rubber split or fallen off. or the carb to engine rubber is split or not fixed down enough.

If your engine is sucking in more air it will run lean so opening the choke to get more fuel in. Depending if your choke is fuel or air controlling.

Good luck the post above could be right also. Modern fuel is rubbish. I've had bikes that run pants after leaving just a few days. That resulted in stripping and cleaning the carbs and would run fine till it was left alone for a while. best thing to do is, on your way home, turn the fuel tap off just before you get home, you have to learn how far away to do it, so the carb is then empty when you arrive home.

choke restricts airflow through carb.

Its a very simple carb, best to whip it off and check and clean it
check the fuel flow from the tank as well
If you have a vac tap, check the hoses for leaks.

We have the same ( OK copy) carb on the lads Kymco
When it started to suddenly run rough I noticed the choke flap
(shiny thing upper right in the picture)
had lost contact with the lever ( black thing) and was flapping about
Its easy to check and fix

That is an interesting idea!

As soon as fizzer came back with their response I figured it was worth whipping the carb off and giving it a bit of a clean up

Maybe the idle jet is clogged.

Check the jets Smile

Update...

Carb off and thoroughly cleaned. There was a tiny bit of grot in the float chamber but that was the only problem I could find. All reassembled and now she runs....

also check the filter bowl on the bottom of the fuel tap for crud, you can fit an inline fuel filter to the fuel line between the petrol tank and carb for extra filtration.

I think she needs a new fuel pipe anyway so I will sort that and put an inline in at the same time... Cool
