For a flooded engine the remedy is alwys the same.
You need to clear the extra fuel or the mixture will be too rich to burn. (Not enough oxygen for combustion)
Choke off (if a manual choke)
Hold the throttle wide open against the stop.
Crank the engine over several times.
Set the choke.
Crack the throttle open (about from 12 o'clock to 1 o'clock) this ensures that there is sufficient air for combustion.
The engine should then start. If ignition, timing is ok.
Another wild card is that the battery cable terminals are dirty and the engine isn't turning over faat enough to start. |
WOPrth remembering a CB500 does have a manual fuel tap.
What I do with Mrs stinkwheels one if it floods (rarely and only after being left sitting for a long period) is turn the fuel off, choke off, throttle wide open and caw it over in bursts of 6 turn overs and an equivalent rest (to allow the battery to recover) until it fires. It'll often fire up at this in which case, I just knock the fuel on and away you go.
If I've done say 6 cycles, I'd then try fuel on, choke on and start as normal. I would not however, touch the throttle. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
