I came back from a ride on my Mk1 speedy recently, left it on the sidestand to find that after a couple of minutes it began leaking coolant from the coolant cap. I know the level was fine before I set off. Any thoughts?

Cheers

Overfilled? Rad cap seal/safety valve failing?

Was the temp OK on the ride?

The cap on my Speed Four went, bodge it by replacing the rubber seal with something thicker or get a new cap from Triumph. I think mine was less than £10.

Long ride on a hot day. The fan did kick in which is a bit worrying otherwise I'd just change the thermostat thingie. I'm going to drain it all down, flush it and refill and see if that cures it...

It was the cap to the expansion tank...

I'm going to bleed the system and put in fresh coolant to see if that helps - the stuff that came out looked like leaky bum-water...

Sorted. I undid the radiator cap and a drain bolt, stuck a hosepipe in and flushed the lot. It took 10 minutes before the water ran clear. I don't know if my method of bleeding is the correct one, but I took the expansion tank cap off and ran the engine until air stopped bubbling out. Just need to get some antifreeze now and top it up...
