At the end of this years jolly we were thinking about next year and the consensus was that it would be good to go and see the Assen BSB race, which is in September. I've been playing with Google maps and there's two choices I think:

A wimpy ride through The Netherlands, taking in Amsterdam on the way back from the race, and then maybe stopping somewhere in Belgium or France:

Or an epic ride through The Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden & an overnight ferry into Poland, but then a bit of a slog back through Germany:

The long way is actually less miles than this years jolly and it looks pretty good to me. What do you guys think?
How long would we stay for the race?
Good places to visit on the way round?

Either's good for me.

Hopefully I will be free, but I have no idea what I'll be doing in 13months.

I'd like to think I could join you folks next year, but who knows.

How did you come up with these routes?

Just playing with Google maps. It's too soon for a proper plan, apart from being at Groningen over the BSB weekend, maybe stopping at Arnhem on the way there, and the overnight ferry from Trelleborg to Swinoujscie. The other waypoints are about 200 miles apart. We'll have to find good places to visit and cheap hotels for a proper route.

I'll "likely" be living in Groningen next year so will make sure to join for a part of it, probably just the Assen part and in the local vicinity though:up:

Wouldn't it be better to pick some places of interest first, then link them with the best roads that can be found in the relevant region? Otherwise, won't you find you'll end up going through industrial areas, motorways and whatnot, to get to places that have no appeal when you get there?

I prefer the second route ... but it looks like we would again be passing more places than actually seeing them.
It's great to cover the distances and tick the countries off the list, however I'd prefer to travel to a central point, offload the gear and return back after each day.

The wake up, pack, ride, unpack, sleep, pack routine was wearing a little bit thin after Italy Laughing

On the second route, you wouldn't have to drop much further south to go to the Moehnesee and dam, which is in the Breitenbruch Neuhaus nature conservation area, so maybe some nicer roads and scenery. The dam used to be a regular bike meet place on Sundays, with café.

I'm in, but not from Calais.

The ferry overnight from Harwich to Hook of Holland is cheap when the BSB is on and puts you right into Holland. Return trip with a cabin should be around £140 single occupancy, less if you share. The deal normally runs for a few days before the BSB (Monday of race week) until a week after.

The superferry really is the way to go. There are always a load of bikes going over and the boat has restaurants, bars, casino etc. Sleep through the night and get off in Holland early morning ready to go.

I'm with Neil on that one Thumbs Up We need to find a spot to dump our gear and just go off on day trips to places, or maybe spend a few days in one place then move further out.

Accommodation can be expensive in Holland, I've paid £50 a night for B&B before and it gets booked up really quickly around Assen when there is racing.

I'm OK with the ferry over from Harwich, and Moehnesee & Breitenbruch Neuhaus sounds good. I was thinking we'd be staying near Assen for at least two nights, and staying in other places for longer is good, but I also don't want to have days with mega-miles to get to those places.

I would like to think I could try and make it. But I too would do the ferry from the good ol' North into Holland and meet people there.

Go from Harwich. Ferry doesn't leave until near enough midnight, gives you all day to get there Thumbs Up

I was on the Spain ride in March so I'm probably not doing the September one this year.

And as things stand at the moment I can't do Assen September/October.

From previous experience I'd say that ferry crossings and accommodation are going to be hard to find now.

I was watching WSB Assen the other week and thinking I should check in with you to see what was happening and if I should be booking anything etc.....then forgot to.

WSB Assen looked mega, fans going crazy for Michael Van Der Mark.
Good racing too I thought.

I'm not doing the Assen/BSB trip either, but i'm going over to Holland over a long weekend in Summer, will be sometime between 13th August and 18th September i'm going, don't mind if anyone wants to tag along.

I've only planned the route so far (quite similar to noobRider's first map) because of needing to check what dates me and my mate are going to be able to do it. Will be about 600-700 miles not including UK travel to/from the tunnel.

I Decided to take a year out of the BCF Jolly for 2016.
Instead I'll be going on holiday into Europe off the bike for the first time in 3 years Laughing

Might be going Snowboarding early 2017, but keen for any plans beyond that Thumbs Up

I expect everyone to be on touring blades or Pans by this point !

No worries at all! If you fancy the spring round next year, give me a shout. Normally I can't take time off in March + April, but plenty of buggers did this year so I think I'd have a good case Smile

I'd be interested in this tbh but, it's all going to rely on how my finances are at the time and with the new bike, insurance and still trying to get the house furnished and decorated, I'm not sure I'll be able to.

My numbers on the lottery may come in though between now and then. Praying
