 |

Hey all so in short story i was planning to do my CBT after christmas time as i thought i wouldn't have the funds until then for a moped but managed to pick up 2 Honda Express's NC50's so il be doing my cbt as soon as this is finished and ready for road
1 Is Blue (light blue not sure of the name though lol) 1978 year seat is slit, some rust on wheel spokes, front headlight casing smashed. this one is missing headlight, airfilter and cables are siezed on it.
2nd one is Red (Dark red at moment but little faded) 1980 year. this one is in really nice condition with no rust i can see. been under a cover in a garage since 1984. this one is missing cylinder head, barrel, has broken rear R/H indicator, no foot pegs
my plans the now are to swap the cylinder head, barrel and foot pegs over from blue to red and see if its running. then planning once its running to just clean up good and try to get the red back to the original colour (shiny red) not sure what il use though ?
I'll add some pictures once i get them as blue one is local to me (Scotland) but guy isn't delivering it until this weekend. and red one is being collected by a courier as its in Reading in london. (should have it by next wednesday at latest)
got both v5's for both too which is a bonus i think want to keep the red one as original as possible not sure if its got its original stickers as owner has the leg shield on top instead of underneath frame but il find out when it arrives
blue one my plans once i take the parts off i need (and will fit) i planning to strip the rest to sell as the rest of engine is no good for the 80 as its different according to ebay anyways and its too old for indicators so nothing else really to use as red one is is really nice just needing engine work which is a walk in the park
if you have any tips about getting the red back to original colour let me know as not sure if t cut would work ?
i plan to put the Red one on the road and drive it once its finished. im only 20 years old but love the vintage mopeds as my mums partner has one plus the modern scooters/mopeds are far too heavy for me to move around reason i went with a older one as well
i was buying a nc50 before that i posted up for a project but ended up cancelling it as it was too badly rusted in the end. |

Righty, we will wait for the pics then.
Then regular and frequent updates (with more pics).
And no slacking.
Good luck, good project and good to see a 20 year old appreciating older bikes, be a great learning curve for you, enjoy.

Looks like a relatively easy restore project to the metal work, not too many nooks and cranny's to de-rust.
I would waxoyl inject all the internal hollow sections, and not worry about rust coming through from the inside.
Time to get stuck in mate lets see how it goes.
Wouldn't mind a little project like that myself, I'm looking around for a winter pastime but cannot decide (have not come across) a viable bike yet. |

yeah mate as soon as my other one arrives i will be not planning on using much from the blue one to be honest as its mostly the engine i got it for. (frame, tank, handlebars etc) i don't need for the red one so just gonna sell them as it will pay most of my money back im due to buy the red express lol, going to have to source a exhaust for it though there one ebay but there £105 for a new old stock one but waiting on guy getting back to me as he has it on for a 1982-1983 but im sure there all the same. not buying one from the usa anyways as import tax on it is high, few bits to buy that i don't have/the blue stuff don't fit but i think time i sell the parts off blue one i don't need and pay my gran back il have only paid about £80 for the red express and it will be near complete a side from exhaust. after i buy ignition and exhaust il have spent about £120 i think will get it up and running unless i need to rebuild engine but that would only be another £30-£40 to do. which i might do depending on how much miles is on red express don't think it would be that much on it though as guy bought it from someone in 1984 so it was only 4 years old and looks really clean so i would assume its been well looked after and not drove that much |

Great bikes. I had 3 NC50's with the ratchet starting mechanism, I think your red one is the NA50. Make sure the tank hasn't rusted through, It's a common problem and you end up with an oil tank full of petrol. A few people have done the hack and weld of an expansion chamber on them but the limiting factor is that you can't change the gearing so 40 is about as much as you can get before you grenade it. I get more fun out of mopeds than motorbikes these days. It's great getting something that was only designed to do 25mph up to 35mph. I also ride around with a smile on my face which is more than I can say about my commute on my 900!
