Came off the bike for the first time. I was exiting a roundabout, it was just starting to rain and I didn't realise how slick the road was. I accelerated out of the exit, about 20 meters later the rear lost traction completely, tried to correct it, the front lost grip as well and things went sideways. I knew I was going to crash, so aimed at grass on the side and dumped the bike. I took a few seconds laying on my back and was just taken back by the whole thing happening and thinking, this wasn't actually painful at all.

A woman got out of her car and ran over to see if I was alright. Then 2 lads and their dad helped me get the bike up and reattached the back fairing. Very grateful for these folks.

The bike has suffered some damage, bent brake pedal, scratched fairing, handlebar end taken out, mirror blinked smashed. Though the crash bung seemed to do a good job.

A guy crashed shortly after overtaking me this morning. entering a roundabout. Similar damage to his zx6r. Gotta make allowances for this weather.

Definitely echo your thoughts on the crash protection. Without the frame sliders my ZX10 would definitely have engine or frame damage. Although in the grand scheme of things it's still going to be written off... I suppose crash protection is perfect for situations like yours.

Do check your throttle cable housing and right switchgear, make sure they haven't moved as the last thing you want is the throttle sticking unexpectedly.

glad you'r ok, crash bungs- yeh, worth their weight in gold, as all those plastics are expensive to replace.

(obviously less effective if you somersault your bike down the M8)

Crash bungs seemed to have done well. Glad you're alright. Also no paint diagram?

Glad your crash bungs did work for you this time. For 5 years I had crash bungs on my bike and never needed them, on the one occasion I did come off, it was the crash bungs that caused all the damage - they transmitted the force of the fall straight through to the frame causing it to crack. Evil or Very Mad

I joined the "off" club last Friday. First real off in 45 years so cannot complain. Same problem - very heavy rain after a dry spell AND I could smell diesel when my nose was a couple of inches from the road so likely a spill there. Fat foot where it was trapped a bit until the bike was lifted, a not-so-pretty bruise on my hip/ bum and a sore shoulder. Foot does not feel right but nothing broken so they say. Bike lost a wing mirror and a couple of signal indicators and gained a few scratches on the plastic but they are easy fix

Aye it's worse when it rains after a long dry spell.....the rain draws up grime onto the suraface and it can be pretty treacherous Thumbs Down

+1. When it starts raining, if it hasn't rained for a while, it can be handy to let the rain clean the road for a few minutes before you set off.

No you didn't. It's not in the spill counter, there's no paint diagram, it didn't happen. Folded arms

Filling in for hellkat here.

In times of old it was always Joe who did the spill counter.

Im definitely bruised up all over. Didn't realise how much until this morning when trying to get out of bed.

https://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/oscar2227/unnamed_zpsg9pvpdyr.jpg

The brake pedal has been bent, so hopefully I can bend it back. The mirrors I wanted to change anyway (as they're utterly useless and not very good looking anyway). Hopefully no hidden damage but we shall see.

Overall I was impressed with just how helpful people around were. I mean these three guys didn't have to sit there in the rain and try to reattach my fairing.

I always try to make bad events like this a positive, so will learn from it. If it makes me safer on the road in the long run, it was a blessing really.

Welcome to the off club mate. Crash bungs look to have saved a lot of damage there.

I nearly had an off the other day in the wet weather, same thing as you, back slid but luckily managed to control it. Very unnerving.

I think it's more the accumulation of tyre rubber and fuel spills that have no been washed away as it is normally by a good down pour.
