If I'm just going for a haircut down the road at 20 mph, I'm not really bothered putting on my helmet. Easier to just go in the car.

There's also the possibility that you get dirt in your eyes, or get hit in the face by debris that could cause you to lose control and crash into a bus queue full of innocent kittens.

I don't really fancy not wearing a helmet.

I've hit what I could only describe as a bee the size of a small child at *ahem* 70mph and it sounded like being hit by a fucking hammer. Left a god awful mess on my helmet.

Rather it hit that instead of my head.

I think because the taxpayers here cover the NHS, enforcing the helmet policy is in some ways more sensible. Granted it infringes mah freedumz etc...

In the states it's not as much of an issue as you essentially have to pay for all the damage you cause yourself. Plus, the licencing system there is basically "Are you alive? Have a licence!"
