They are £13.99 BIN or Make Offer.

I offered £10 each for two and accepted, free post.

Just a heads up in case anyone interested, I like these closed shackle locks.

TBH doesn't mean much as we've seen, more a deterrent than anything.

Anything that makes my bike look more difficult nick, than the one alongside it, works for me. Also this is small enough to always have with me.

Forgot about the reminder curly thingamy, need a couple of those Thumbs Up

Had one for months they are secure enough not that anyone has had a go at it but the 'warning datatool protected' text isn't weather proof mine faded after a week.

I would also recommend a reminder cable if you aren't used to using disc locks you can easily forget all about them until you hear a loud clunk as you take off.

Cheers Thumbs Up

I use a disclock regularly but I'm due to move house and the new house has no garage ... gutted. So in addition to disc lock (cheapy from J&S) and a (shit) chain around a post it might just look too much hassle to try and steal a 20 year old manky zzr.

PS do you wear a black hoody beneath your bike jacket? I've seen a blue Fazer twice on my commutes which maybe is you.

Dugged.

Unless the thief has access to a screwdriver and 15 seconds.

Mind you, that probably is too much concentration for a pikey. It'll be cut off, or lifted into a van and then cut off later, so you'll get as much visual deterrence as with any other lock.

Never said they were perfect, just offered up. Possibly as much use a sticker that says "Armed guard, they are invisible, they are. Legit!"

For £10 each, as I said sits under the seat and can be used when I want to make my bike less nickable. Like when I'm on a ride with BCF pikey's.

Sure, it's a big bright solid looking lock for a tenner, it'll help to encourage beady little rat-eyes to move on to the next bike. Why not?

I've just made the same offer as OP and won.

Got two coming so I'll use them, purely as a deterrent, but in effect, unless its a 19mm chain, that's all anything is eh?

I just made the same offer. I have a little more space left in the tailpack that these will fit in to alongside the chain. The more the merrier. Owning a nice bike makes me paranoid.

Had mine for just under 4 year & still works perfectly.
I spray it with ACF50 every so often, but it's held up well considering it's always outside.
Never attempted or had anyone attempt to break it, but it's a nice bulky visual deterrent that fits under my pillion seat Thumbs Up

It's funny how in the item description, a fundamental weakness of the lock is actually a feature.

"MOVABLE CHROME PLATED BRASS RING WITH HARDENED STEEL RING"

With the volume turned down, that translates to;

An easily removable soft brass plug that's held in with a mere steel spring, is the only thing that retains the important bits of the lock.

Holy fuck. Mine just arrived. People trust a product like this with their bike?

I wasn't expecting anything amazing but this seriously is terrible. The ring has a lot of play in it. The body feels remarkably weak, and the physical lock part of the body bends away from the main body under moderate pressure from my own two hands. There is a screw under the ring which is clearly accessible by a screwdriver. I have a strong suspicion that removing this screw would allow me to simply remove the locking mechanism from the lock, but I'm not going to test it.

I would not lock anything of value up with this. It genuinely feels like a toy.

Thatcham Approved means Thatcham Approved.

It would be better if that meant it was worth more than the typing.

But better than nowt and for a 10-er can't complain.

For £10 I certainly would complain. Albeit missing a padlock, you can pick up used heavy lifting chain of a decent length and size for £10. I used one for 2 years before I stepped up to purchase my Almax. I trust that chain far more than these toys that have just been delivered.

I'm sure if you spent ten pounds on a fat padlock that is not bike specific it would be more secure.

The play in the shackle isn't totally unusual, it's because the lock uses ball bearings to retain the shackle and to be fair, even more expensive locks of this design will have a bit of play. However, the cam which engages these ball bearings is made of plastic, it's in theory possible to destroy the cam and squish the ball bearings in to it, by pulling or striking the shackle and body from each other hard enough.

The screw under the shackle doesn't do anything important, it along with two brass pins on the side of the lock retain the bolt cropper guide guard, i.e. the black chunk of zinc with sharp edges, to the main body of the lock. Besides, that screw can't be accessed when there's a brake disc in the way.

The body feels weak because it is, the lock is made of zinc, it's pretty soft. The plastic cover is secured with flimsy brass inserts that I broke by pulling on the plastic cover by hand. That exposed the lock's retaining ring that can be easily pried off - dumping the guts of the lock and opening it.

It gets rave reviews at amazon.co.uk

Data Fool Lock

Which only proves amazon reviews are worth as much as a Thatcham Approval. Smile

It has 'Warning Datatool Protected' on the lock what is the warning?

To the thieve or to the owner? Smile

I got one a while back. Quality is definitely poor and the writing on the case could have been written on in crayon. This, along with the price, leads me to believe they are all rip off Chinese cheese metal copies on ebay.

Still it's a visual deterrent and better than nothing.

This. Everything is a visual deterrent, if there was a single product or device out there that made something 'safe' it would cost a fortune and insurance companies would make it a prize part of policies.

But, there isn't, Almax is the best we have.
Why spend £50 on an OxfoTag stamped lock when it will be no more effective in keeping your bike from the waiting van than this £10 job?
