Cheap Airbrush

Amongst the stuff that came with my bike was a small single cylinder compressor, one of these:-

Is it worth bothering with? If so, what type of brush should I get to try it out? I thought it may be good for some small parts, for example I'm stripping down the clocks and wondered if I could use it on the covers? And maybe the radiator?

Hi

No reservoir so not great, although the pump is fine for minor stuff. I have a similar pump but with a reservoir for painting models.

There are loads of cheap air brushes around on Ebay and the like, or get an Iwata Neo for about £45 (half decent basic airbrush - it is better than me so I am pretty happy with it).

As Kickers says, No reservoir so not much cop.
The compressor has a very small output so you will not get much air flow to drive an air brush.
You can probably find a pressure vessel for it quite easily.

Make sure you get a relief valve for it too.

A compressed air tank is potentially a bomb when there is no reliable safety valve fitted.

You could go mental and ensure it's hydro-statically tested for good measure.

It must be good for something...and my trailer tyre is flat and the 12v compressor won't reach. It's got a female screw connecter that presumedly screws onto an airbrush, can you get tyre adapters for them? Does that female end have a title/name? Looks about 1/4" ID.

While pressure wise it might, suspect the flow is tiny compared to a normal garage compressor. That one is 23L/min which works out at 0.8cfm. For comparison my little garage compressor is 7cfm.

Jeez..........it'd take me all week

I may get a brush and just have a play using stencils and what have you, I've seen the profesionals do it and it looks really easy

It's worth picking up a cheap brush for £10 or so and having a play

I've rather minimum experience with one myself, mostly from doing interior repairs on cars but it's a handy tool to have for little touch up jobs and such, you'll be surprised how much control you have over where you want paint to go.

I'm sure that little comp' will be fine for most of the stuff you might want to use it for (assuming you're not looking to start doing custom airbrush jobs )
