I Passed my test about a year ago (i've always been a car man) , I did my research and brought a lovely 2013 Street Triple ABS.
Over the past year, I have been out on it many times (short trips) but only covered about 300 miles. I haven't managed to gain much confidence, and never felt happy on the bike.
I sold it a couple of weeks ago and was going to give up, but decided to try once more.
I bought a 2010 mk2 CBF1000, the difference is night and day, straight away I felt comfortable and much more confident.
I'm now enjoying the motorcycle, and its put a big smile on my face.
SO if your struglling , don't give up try a different bike. |

Did you feel confident on the bike you did your test on ??
If so get a similar bike build confluence then what ever bike you fancy
Alternatively go back to the training school and get some post test training
At 300 miles since test you to new to even look at bikesafe let alown and Advanced training ____________________ Dave

Also there's plenty of people on BCF that say your first bike even after passing DAS is really not important at all? But I guess it depends on if you want to learn/improve and ride the bike all the time to rack up road experience and confidence, or if you just want to have a nice piece of kit that you want and looks good/stylish is capable, but the rider isn't or does not want to put in the effort to get good? |
Hi Stevo, I'm sure your 99% right but also wrong.
I took the bike out many times on back roads short trips every time telling myself, its a great bike and I just need to get used to it.
I didn't like the ride (it wasn't adjustable other than rear preload which I tried on all settings) , riding over a manhole cover rattled my teeth, on a badly made road the bike was twitchy and uncomfortabe.
It didn't matter how careful I was with the throttle, if I throttled off there was a jolt when power was re applied, which I hated mid corner.
The wind blast was awful (this may have been a function of the screen)
I'm a big chap and felt like I was going over the front every time I put the brakes on.
The CBF1000 has solved all these problems and after 1 mile I felt happier than the last 12 months on the Triple.
Engine size has nothing to do with it I find the 998cc easier than the 675
(during my DAS I rode a Bandit 650, Bandit 1250, R1, Faser & Hornet)
I only found the R1 too sensitive / sharp for me to feel at home on. (and that was on day 2 of my DAS at malloy park) |

no one picks the right first bike, mine was a sachs XTR...possibly one of the worst 125's around.
But hey, half the fun is having different bikes, i used to buy a new one every year |
