That washer looks a bit large -what are you using to weigh these with? Drug paraphernalia is probably the best bet for those types of weight! |

a 5p coin is a baw hair under 4g.
Nickel plated steel.
And \ drugist scale would be bestest. A smaller scale has a better sweet area. Scales are always more accurate in the mid range due to charachteristics of springs
Maplin do a nice wee druggy scales I have this one (but I say 'No' to Drugs )
Not for Drug Use
I can confirm it's accuracy as I used a calibrated 100g weight to test mine
There are heat fins under the piston you can clean off the sprue on them.

That's the same crank, (same bike), but not the one I'm having rebuilt. It's for a 1975 GT750. ____________________ Space Is Deep |

I suggested the skirt.......but got told the pin bosses. The people doing the crank do a lot of work for tuned motors.....powerboat engines, race bikes etc where all these things matter........ they're used to GT750 cranks and know their stuff which is why I went there. I'm not sure they're used to the make of pistons I have though
Keith...I can balance out 1.8g by just swapping the gudgeon pins I have and the rings around.....that's nearly 50% less to file off ____________________ Space Is Deep |

As I understand it, balancing the crank will help cut down vibration....apparantly an issue on the GT...and help it rev higher and pick up better. I'm not sure that I'd need to do anything to the engine to "match" this. I am thinking of having inserts in the head, not to boost power but just because the domes on the head don't match up exactly with the barrels...and I'll be fitting expansion pipes, and electronic ignition instead of points.....but that's about it.
The problem with increasing power through modification of the engine is that you start to lose out on reliability......generally, the more you tune, the less reliable the engine becomes and the more likely it is to let go at high revs. The GT750 is not really a "sports" bike, it was built as more of a "tourer", gear changes have to be timed and deliberate, it's a bit "wollowy" with it's soft suspension and everything is so bloody heavy on this bike that, if trying to tune it, you're fighting a losing battle from the start. If you look at the RG500, Suzuki had learnt about extra weight by then and literally every single part of that bike was designed to be as light as possible......... and it pays off. GT750 weighs 220KG, RG500 - 156KG, a large proportion of which is taken up by the square-four engine. Aye...IMO, the first thing to do with the GT to get it to go faster would be to get rid of some of that weight, it must have 30KG in chrome plating!...........it's a fat bastard, built for comfort and not speed ____________________ Space Is Deep |
