My Trophy had a flat battery so charged it for half and hour and then tried starting it with the charger still connected and power on without thinking. It started OK but I now have an engine management warning light on. Evil or Very Mad

Everything seems to be working, bike is running fine. I presume I have fried some electrical gubbins somewhere.

I think this will have to be a trip to Triumph as I can't find any info on getting and reading codes.

Would trying to start with the charger connected do this or is it pure coincidence?

I reckon coincidence, a bike charger assuming it is one doesn't give out much power.
I suspect it has been caused by the flat battery so try turning the bike on and off half a dozen times quickly and see if it clears the fault, used to work on older Triumphs.

Might want to check the fuses on your charger though. I blew one trying to start a bike with it still connected once.

Seems that this is something Triumphs (Sprint, STripple etc.) do with flat batteries. Advice is turn it on/off 4 or 5 times, or it may clear after a ride.

Triumph system is OBD2 compliant like cars
Most cheap readers will give you the fault code and clear the light
Triumph do not like poor weak or discharged batteries

Give it a good charge Check the bike is charging And if you not certain get the battery tested

I wouldn't worry about starting a bike with a battery charger still connected. I have done this on numerous bikes over the years without a problem.

Being a Triumph I'd be more concerned about lack of spinny-power and the sprag clutch...

I thought the chargers had not enough Amps to power the starter motor. Thinking

bluetooth obd tool and a phone app, cost about £23 and you can clear fault codes and reset the service spanner, even on the later "locked" ecu models

Disconnect the battery and leave it a good ten minutes, should clear it. Failing that there's usually a way to kill the warnings, mine is just a matter of shorting out the diagnostic connector.

On my Triumph whenever the batter power is cut it would throw the EM light. I'd bet good money after 3 heat cycles it'll clear.

Heat cycle = Start engine and get it up to temp (for my Speed four it would mean waiting for the temp to change from 'Lo' to a number. Once this happens turn it off let it cool down again and do it again (and again).

Edit:- Do this before spending any money, I'm certain I'm right.

Andy, can you point me in the way of what I would require for this. Google throws up 10's of different ones of varying prices on Amazon alone so I'm not sure what I actually need. My cheap car reader won't 'talk' to the bike.
