So I'm going on a group ride...

Im going on a group ride in a few weeks over hartside (uk), I'm on a cbr 125r and it seems to cope fairly well with the steep roads and sharp turns, I'm going with a few other guys but one of them is on a honda pcx 125

I'm guessing his 'bike' will struggle on those hills and corners, any tips on how we should ride with him?

Get everybody to share mobile numbers. When the lead rider turns into a new road have the 2nd rider wait at the turn until all riders in the group have passed.

It's a bunch of L-platers out on a jolly, you wont be setting land speed records regardless of what people turn up on, stick him towards the front and don't pressure.

its a long climb up to hartside .. you`ll use more fuel than expected..
fill up at Alston in the new station at the far end of the village..
the roads are littered with gravel ..
its been there couple of years and its in all the "wrong places"
whilst I don't expect you`ll be speeding much on the way up ..over the top and into melmerby is a different story ..
watch for the camera van in on or around the village green ..
and where drops from 60 to 30 ..
last but not least .. keep a distance from other bikes .. if he looses it you`ll need time to avoid hitting him..

More so on hills as I never missed a gear

I don't do a lot of group riding, I hate it with a passion. I hate having to ride to someone else's style.

But the times I have done that, all I know is that its always best to ride "for yourself" and not worry unduly about other people, apart from keeping a distance from them.

So long as everyone is aware in front and behind them : "where did the leader turn off/did him behind me make it through a traffic-lights-changing" routine, etc. then ride your own ride, to your own capabilities.

Nah, set your destination ish. All agree if you lose sight if the rider behind then when you turn off a road you wait at the junction if safe until he catches up and sees you. If another behind him you go on and he waits. Or just stick together in a group. You are out on a jolly not a race.

I was on a group ride to Italy. 7 bikes and before sat nav's. Everyone had the same maps and the address of the daily set destinations. You could ride in a group or ride your own pace/route. As long as you let someone in the group know your intention so they dont start looking for you in ditches.

Having ridden a PCX from Bournemouth to South London. I'll say this, pretty pokey and it pulls well to 60. BUT it has a sort of limiter and will not go any higher. Going down a steepish hill it still did not seem to go higher. Also, first roundabout I took on it, I was grinding the stand (and I'm not a kneedowner!).

I once went on an 'organised' ride, where one of the guys was on a PCX and he was hustling it along. CBR125R will be more fun, but it's still a 125!

Google cornerman system. Very useful way of doing big group rides without losing everyone.

One guy leads, one guy tail-guns. Anyone behind leader will hold a corner until everyone passes, the tail gunner will appear last and the corner man can stop holding that corner. Ezpz.

Thousands of people a year manage to get up Hartside on pushbikes.

A PCX has got more power than my MSX. That only caught fire 3 times last time I rode it up there.
