Some idiot knocked over my bike! Thumbs Down

I came out of the shop to find several groups of people denying it. Then people drove off. I'm outraged!

The bike actually seems fine. Couple of little scratches. But what could be the potential consequences of this later in time? And should I get it serviced ASAP?

Thanks

It happens, has happened to me too. IMO no need to service it or panic. Just pick it up.

Check the handlebars for shear-stress fractures.

Someone reversed into my bike and left it on the ground, just around the corner from my house.

So I didn't really notice until the next day that there was a small fracture in the handlebars. I managed to get away with it for about, oh four days @ 11 miles to work and back per day (so over 80 miles at reasonably tame speeds in London traffic) until the damn thing actually sheared right off Shocked I was left with the gearing flopping about in my hand, and the brakes still on the other side.

Luckily that was also around the corner from my house, so I was going slow, and managed to slow down, stop and wheel it home.

... but five minutes earlier, I had been filtering through rush hour traffic over the Canning Town Flyover at 50mph : could have been VERY messy.

So if you are at all concerned about something "doesn't feel right" any more, either look at it, or get someone more experienced to give it the once over.

Happened to me only last week.

Unfortunately, I didn't get off so lightly.

Broken indicator, scuffs on bar end, brake lever and exhaust, along with a cracked fairing.

Give your bike a good visual check over. If there's nothing obvious it should be fine and it probably will be.

If, however, you're worried about it, then by all means get a mechanic to give it the once over.

Thanks for the advice. Will probably take the 30 mph roads tomorrow on my 10k commute into London and get a better idea for how it feels. I'll call the mechanic if it's weird.

One of the people that denied it and drove off was in a 4x4 (note to self, never park behind a 4x4). Some people don't open their eyes before getting in the car! Or after for that matter! Confused

i'd be looking for some CCTV mate, know it might sound petty but if anyone damaged my bike and f'd off i'd be trying to find them.

first thing i would have done is took photos of all the vehicles around and said to them i would be calling the police, bet someone might have owned up then.

Shit happens. Some anonymous cnut backed into mine a month ago and snapped the front fender. Cost me 120 squids for a carbon fiber replacement. Suck it up, move on.

Oh yeah that's happened to me as well, so fecking annoying. Surely you'd leave a note and arrange for any damage to be sorted out right? Well, guess not. On the plus side, I don't think there'll be more than cosmetic damage done. Should be safe to ride just be careful and note any changes you spot in how it rides.

There is no way i would just let it go.

Our car got hit outside our house last year and i sussed out it must have been someone from the factory that is at the end of the road. Popped in and asked if anyone knew anything and that i would be going to the police.

Next day a young girl popped round and admitted her boyfriend had done it. They paid for all the repairs £700 worth.

But hey, up to you.

As a Londoner, I'm generally surprised if it doesn't get knocked over. Suck it up, move on.

Did it before to someone else, left them a note (I didn't do it, it was a mate of mine who was drunk but I was involved etc...) The guy was so happy that someone owned up that he asked for a negligible amount of money and offered me a free lunch at his really nice restaurant which cost way more than the damage!

My opinion is the world is too full of bad stuff - just do good stuff and spread a little love. Makes the world a better place.

If I'd had time I would have got photos. As for cctv I looked for cameras but there was only one which was pointing the wrong way Neutral

The bike seems to be riding as good as it was , nothing unusual.

Was angry briefly, but now just thankful there's no damage and that the bike isn't really expensive!

Besides, I saw a cyclist get wiped by a van this morning, wasn't pretty. Made me think of worse things that can happen to anyone using the roads!
