Ok, I got a new battery for my bike in an attempt to fix the electrical problem I've been having.
Two things though;
It's a dry charged battery, and as such can be used straight away according to the slip of paper that came with it. However, it warns against this, suggesting it be charged first. How much is this going to affect the batteries life? (Considering I have no charger, and can't afford to get one )
Secondly, it came with some acid. The acid is in a sort of quickloader (like a revolver sort of) which would fill all 6 cells at once. But it doesn't fit So. Any suggestions? I'm not sure where I'd find a glass funnel, would I get away with a plastic one (unsure as to the strength of battery acid, but I assume its not safe to drink ). Or does anyone have any ideas/ suggestions of how to safely get the acid in?

Hi
You can use then immediatly and they will still last a fair while. Probably knocks a year or 2 off the life. Also leave the battery to stand for a while after filling it up.
Normally with these batteries the acid comes in a strip of bottles that you push hard into place, which punctures the seals on the bottles. Then just leave it draining in for half an hour or so.
Suspect a plastic funnel would be OK (after all the acid comes in a plastic bottle), just don't use it for cooking afterwards.
All the best

Cheers Kickstart, I figured it would be OK to use immediately, I guess they're just covering themselves.
It is indeed a strip of little bottles, but the battery for my TZR is about the size of a square 9v The strip of bottles is way to long. Typical.
As to the funnel. I used the same logic as you, but then I got worried about special plastics for acids etc. but think I may be overcomplicating.

WEAR GOGGLES!
Battery acid is nasty stuff. I have seen loads of people filling batteries without goggles on and it is just bloody stupid.
Seems funny to give you the acid packaged in those little bottles when they don't fit. If you get the bottles there is usually a spike on the opening of each battery cell to pierce the seals. Could it be that the battery only needs a couple of the bottles and you just need to snap them off the strip like a bar of chocolate?
I have visions of strong sulphuric acid splashing everywhere as you try to get it out of the bottles, they are really designed to drain directly into the cells, if you can find a way of doing this, use it. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. Stinkwheel, understood I've taken the acid out of its package now, and ot only do they not fit, but they require penetrating by the battery, and there's nothing on the battery holes that would do this as far as I can see (further investigation reveals that thy won't fit in the battery holes anyway). Also, it'll use most of the acid but not all by the looks, so if I were to (assuming I could, which I can't) use it as per instruction, the battery would be overfilled.
The containers themselves are quite rubbery and would not snap apart, but there's ample room to cut them from each other I think (although again, I don't like the idea of running a knife between two bottles of acid ).
Best plan so far seems to be - Goggles, Heavy Gloves, cut apart bottles, pierce bottle tops with blade, use small funnel. I don't see that I have huge alternative to be honest.
ts50x0 I have no access to a charger full stop mate. None of my mates are mechanically inclined at all, let alone bikers I would if I could, trust me
It does detail to leave the battery for an hour, so I'll follow that ____________________ 'Allo! My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die!

Hi
Rather than faffing round with the acid bottles, take the battery into a local bike shop or maybe even decent old car garage and just get them to fill it with acid for you. They will probably have a drum of battery acid and will send the YTS trainee off to put on the goggles and heavy duty gloves to do it for you.
They will probably charge you, but probably less than the cost of the trousers you wreck when you spill acid on them.
Sounds to me like someone has messed up and given you the wrong acid bottles for the battery you have.
All the best
