Just had my bike serviced and they told me the seals on the front brakes were going. The dust seal was damaged and if it broke off all the crap from the road would go into the calipers.
How easy are these to replace?
They are quoting me 140 for replacement. 63 for the seals and labour on top.

Should I get it done professionally?

Buy a Haynes manual. Read the appropriate sections. Then decide if you're happy enough to have a crack at it yourself. Thumbs Up

Start at: Mount the calipers back on your motorcycle with no pads in them. Tighten the calipers there....

1, calipers back on bike (with no pads)
2, loosen up all the bolts + the bolt that holds the hose (not too much)
3, calipers off
4, push the pots out with the MC
5, split the caliper

A Proper Piston removal tool will help hugely.

Not the shitty plier things but one of these.

Simba76 I would be extremely sceptical of that garage, it sounds like they are trying to scare money out of you. The situation is unlikely and if brakes are that bad they should not have let you ride away. How did they see/notice damage which will be hidden inside the calliper under dirt?

They are easy enough to strip and reassemble, but to clean everything properly is time consuming, and if you dont know how to bleed brakes the quick** way that can take just as long. Most of the time seals are in perfect condition and so far I have always reused them... but each pair cost 5-10 quid.. cbr6 with 8 pots can get expensive Shocked

** reverse fill with syringe, bleed at master banjo, then bleed normally.

Piston removal tool = foot pump - just be aware not to let brake fluid go down it, which will rot the pump seal and get into anything else. 150psi will pop most pistons out, wedge some cloth to catch it.
