Hey everyone im planning to do my A2 license soon and have been looking ito it for a while ... i really want to get myself a nice offroad bike that will do fairly well in trails and maybe even light track use. i would also do some commuting on the bike but it will not be my main vehicle so that isnt a big concern ive been looking at the wr 250 as i have a feeling the 450 is ... not allowed with an a2 ? i might be wrong but can someone reccomend me some bikes that may be a good option they dont have to be anything stupidly special i dont expect them to go liek a rocket offroad and do 80 plus without reving to hell i just want something that i can enjoy to ride on and offroad and has a nice bit of power to it thanks everyone Smile

Looks bullshit spurious. Just for example.

The WR450F appears to claim 42.3kW.

Is 42.3 more or less than 35?

At a claimed 123kg wet, that would give it 0.34kW/kg.

Is 0.34 more or less than 0.2?

As Roger pointed out, most motocrossers (real ones) will be outside the power to weight ratio that A2 bikes need as they tend to be very light.

divide the power (or 35 if restricting) by the weight in kilos and see if its less than 0.2

The most obvious bikes here, and the ones that have not been mentioned afaics, are the Honda CRF250L and the Kawasaki KLX250. They're very similar 4t single cylinder bikes making about 20bhp. Perhaps a couple more. Flat, linear and - with the relatively narrow seats - not that comfy. But if you've not got much off-road experience they're fine for that. You'll probably be hard pushed to get over 45-50mph on most green lanes so, at first, you won't want for power. The KLX is a bit lighter than the CRF and generally about a grand cheaper. It also looks better, fwtw. A 2t 125 like a Husqvarna TC would be more fun, but not as good a commuter.

Unsure of DRZ400 is suitable. It's probably not as powerful as you'd like but when you are on a lame licence you can't really choose from much.

The other thing I meant to mention, and again this is dependent on the amount of off-road experience you have (and indeed, how much - and what kind of - off-road riding you intend to do), was don't underestimate the importance of weight. If you set off for a morning's green laning on nadgery sections and you're not used to it, you'll be dropping it a lot at first. A lighter bike will be way, way less fatiguing. So whilst you might not get the benefit of power from a bigger bike, the lighter bike will be more agile, and won't knacker you from repeatedly having to wrestle it upright again. So in many respects, if you'll be off road as much as on, you could do a lot worse than a Pampera.

as for experience wise i have a lot to learn but i have been riding offroad since i was around 11 years old on 125 2t and on a few trials bikes on easy courses so i like a challenge but im no way near an experienced rider i guess i would say but i do like to have power under me problem im having is the place i will be commuting to is about a 10 mile ride which isnt bad buts its mostly a 60mph road .. so looking for something that can handle that and also be fun offroad is hard as i like t o push my limits whenim not on the road Smile

No easily available power figures. Weight is 113kg, variously claimed as wet and dry. That would limit it to 22.6kW or ~30hp for A2 use. I'd be surprised (and sad) if it made that little.

Eh, go for it, just be prepared for some head scratching if your insurers say "Prove it's A2 compliant."

It'll be 50 odd brake, w/ 115kg-ish weight, probably. Proper!

That's... surprising. But that's as close to an official source as you're going to get, so go for it if you can find one. Thumbs Up

Royal Jordanian on YouTube just got one after his Nuda got stolen, but he's got another Nuda now. Offer him 5 ponds for his 511! Wink
