It used to be so simple, one key on an old lanyard that unclipped with a plastic buckle. Then i gained a disklock. That was fine on the 125. The xv535 has a stupid ignition lock between the rear cylinder and the battery, any extra keys hanging off the ignition key took chunks off the paint on one of the panels so the lanyard spawned a small monkey metal clip. Then givi boxes, first one, then two. Each needing the key in to be removed.

Thats 4 keys i need to separate. I can't be the only one with this problem. I'm currently using a clever but fragile keyring from Zup (i think they ceased trading) that allows detatchement of keys by means of small cast metal fittings that are easily broken. Have almost lost keys this way.

How does everyone else manage the detatching keys problem?

I have all my bike related keys on one keyring, but the ignition key is attached with a little clip like this;
https://jjoness.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/trigger-keyring.jpg

That way i can detach ignition key whenever i'm riding.

also, the bike keys have a mini carabina so i can attach them to my car/house keys to keep everything together.

Get a matching lockset for the boxes. That's one less key.

Where do you keep the disclock? Keep the key with the lock when not in use. Saves losing it.

Strip of helicopter tape/protective film on sidepanel around the lock takes care of the scratches/chips. Use the proper 3M stuff.

How do I do it? I don't give a shit. Keys gonna scratch.

I keep all the keys I need on my bunch of house keys except individual bike keys and car key. Then I either clip the bunch of keys under the bike seat, or clip it into the front pocket of my rucksack on a special key clip.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

We have a winner. This is what I do. All bike locks and stuff go on house keys. Car and bike keys are clutter free (I hate the jangling in the car). House keys then go in pocket/bag. Thumbs Up

I have a lanyard with the same type of clip, like you I just unclip my ignition key from it when in use. I wear a
lanyard because I hate having things in my pockets.

I keep all mine under the seat too, along with my wallet and phone sometimes if I know I won't need them.

Ignition key is separate on a lanyard, clip the other keys to it when leaving the bike.

I don't "manage" it at all, actually.

I suppose I haven't really thought about it, although yeah, the scratched tank thing is a bit annoying Rolling Eyes

I do have different keyrings for each bike, though, else that would be tedious. And a different keyring for the garage keys.

The Harley keys (despite being the only set that has a rubber keyring tag) rattle quite annoyingly on the air filter* the whole time the bike is running. It kind of bothered me at first, this constant tinkle tinkle tinkle, but eventually I have managed to unhear it.

Until riding with his Maj last week, when he was pulled up beside me at the lights on Whitehall and in abject horror went "WHAT IS THAT NOISE?" (he's very sensitive to annoying sounds Laughing )

Probably ought to find a solution, for the sake of his sanity... Shifty

Does a carabiner stop them from getting all tangled up in one another, you know, like when the stem of one key gets stuck in the ring that's holding on one of the other keys?

Cos I find it kind of annoying to have them all on the one piece of metal. I like them separated out: ignition, petrol cap, seat, chain/lock/whatev.

Hmmm, thats not a bad idea, it would certainly keep his Maj happy ( Laughing ) but the Harley keys hang from the side as well, and there's only two keys (chain lock, ignition).

I suppose on the GPZ I could use one of them, it would prolly sit alright on the tank. Plus there's more keys for that one. Although there's some kind of clip-on arrangement on the handlebars as well (for putting your phone / GPS apparently) and it would get in the way of the keys.

Lot of fiddle-arseing about on these things, int there? Rolling Eyes

Have some of those, used to use one for my ignition key, it broke. Still use them to hold my trolley token on my building keys.

This is what i am using at the moment. It works but it is flimsy and bulky. It is not a particularly good bottle opener either.https://cdn.bikechatforums.com/files/img_20151020_152844544.jpg

I was wondering what the hell that was.

I don't envy you guys, I have a couple of keys for the house which go in jacket and just the single key for the bike.

I bought this https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0037H7S6C

It works really well, i can get keys on and off it with my gloves on.

Vincent, why do you think i have worked for the prison service? The Jagermeister lanyard comes from my undergrad job in a bar. Used to have my till key and a corkscrew on it.

All my toes are still attatched. No extra ones. 6 unbroken ones.
