Hi, I'm a new user so please be gentle with me.

Does anyone ever take their dog on the bike with them?

If so, how do you secure the dog, and are there any legal restrictions?

How very American. Theres probably a law against it though, if not then it will still get you unnecessary attention
from plod I reckon. How do you know it won't scare the dog half to death?

One of my mates dad's used to regularly take his lab on the bonneville with him apparently. His dad up front, dog in the middle and mum on the back.

I used to see a bloke at a local bike meet who turned up with with a Speed Triple fitted with a dog carrier tank bag with a little Westie in it .
It was an attention seeking thing because he didn't bother turning up when the novelty wore off for everyone.
He was very boring.

I suggested it to Bruno but he won't go in the top box, he claims to be scared of the dark.

Yes, they do. Legally it's fine as long as the dog is secure and can't interfere with your operation of the machine. My dog goes in a special tank bag rather than a rack mounted box - mainly because that way I can talk to him and check how he's doing, and he can see me or look out of the screen. If he was on the back I'd be stopping every few minutes to check on him. Obviously a big dog would have to sit on the back as your arms won't reach around him.

Ours is quite happy out on the bike, as we're always off doing something interesting when we go. He jumps up to help get him into the bag. As we ride he'll look at me, look at the road, or curl up and sleep.

Having a rottweiler in a trailer behind your rat bike can attract the attention of the police, especially if they've got TV cameras with them that day. Laughing

Why does she need to be secured? Can't she hold on to the grab rail like other women do? If not, leave her at home or get a prettier girlfriend Razz

Miniature schauser. A fair bit bigger than a long haired dachshund if that's what that is.
Although that's an impressively big top box. Where from?

My dog currently sits between me and the other dog (the missus) secured on her lap on a harness attached to her belt. The dog loves it, leaps straight on the bike and has done many many miles completely uneventfully. I'm perfectly happy with the arrangement but I just feel as though I might get nicked for it one day though....

Don't worry about getting nicked but your dogs safety.
Have you ever had to slam on the brakes with the dog there.?
It might not end well for the dog.

A dog can cope with 1g. A bike can't do much more that that. Maybe 1.3g for a motoGP bike. Dog will be fine unless you crash.

A guy used to run a bike shop nearby and carry a yorkie in a tailpack. Sold them too. The carriers, not yappy little cannon-mops.

The girlfreind points out that she consented to ride bitch knowing that I'm at least a semi-sensible lunatic, and a dog can't consent to being put on a bike.

Done plenty of fierce braking over the years with a dog behind me, with no problem at all. The wife somersaulting over my head is more of a risk though....

Both. If the dog jumps up onto the bike to go for a ride and have fun times with the owner, that seems OK to me.

Is the dog aware of the risks? Like, "It's OK master, if I get thrown off and under a wheel, I won't blame you." But then bikers don't have unexpected offs.......do they?
