The active chemical removed from Nitromors is dichloromethane.

Paramose.
Basically old-school nitromorse. Slap it on, make a cup of tea, hose it and the paint off.
Only supplied for commercial use... in 5litre cans on ebay. You need to send a letter confirming it's for commercial use before they'll dispatch.
We have a can at work for "ahem" cleaning grafitti off the the building. Absolutely not for stripping the paint off my motorcycle parts. No sir. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Be careful with the contact time not an issue on steel but the caustic solution will etch aluminmiminmum (not sure if Mag Alloy will also suffer).
Any marks 'you add' would need to be rubbed out that's all.
Gloves and Glasses and long sleeves and wash hands thoroughly BEFORE going to the toilet.
It will loosen one layer at a time normally. ____________________ Disclaimer: The comments above may be predicted text and not necessarily the opinion of MCN. |

Remember the correct gloves.
I wear nitrile for the duration of the job then put on a pair of those big blue PU dipped ones when I'm actually handling the stuff.
Latex does nothing. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

I wanted to remove some paint from some engine covers today.
Not wanting to spend hours with wet 'n dry, slowly removing the ends of my fingers, I decided to give some paint stripper a go.
I had some left from when I had used it previously, it hadn't worked very well and had left a lot of paint behind!
This was "Diall" brand "Paint and Varnish Remover".
I'm not going to say where I got this stuff, because, AFAIC, they're a bunch of robbing bastards!
Anyway I put each casing in a washing up bowl and covered both of them in a, thick, layer of goop. As per the instructions, I waited an hour and recoated both parts with another, thick, layer of goop.
I left the parts for another hour then took a toothbrush to them, as per the instructions, and, believe it or not it actually worked.
I followed the exact same process last May, and, as I said 50% of the paint was still there, this time 99% of the paint had gone.
The only noticeable difference betwen the two processes, AFAICS, is that today it was wet and miserable outside. The parts were outside all the time but under cover, the paint stripper didn't dry out, at all, today.
Previously, in warmer weather, leaving an hour between coats, the goop had started to dry.
If I need to do this again, in warmer weather, I will be covering the items with a carrier bag during the process and making sure they're in total shade! I assume, today, that the active chemicals did not, simply, evaporate, like they must have done previously!

This stuff
https://www.screwfix.com/p/no-nonsense-paint-varnish-stripper-500ml/17091?cm_sp=Search-_-SearchRec-_-Area1&_requestid=241862#_=p
seems like it is the same that Sid describes (B&Q and Screwfix are of course "related"). I bought some today to remove ancient varnish off half a dozen solid brass door handles
QUITE IMPRESSED. Especially for a £5 relative to £41 for 4 litres of Nitromoors. The 1/2 litre size for the Screwfix gloop is also more practical. I spread the stuff over the handles, wrapped it all in ally foil and left it for a couple of hours. Opened up the foil and applied some more for an hour and ------ nice clean handles when I scrubbed all the gloop off. Needed a bit of Brillo pad to get a few final crusty bits off, but generally happy.
