Vapour lock? I had that on my XT600E a few times in absolutely baking temperatures. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. my m8 had one of these.. and explained to me how the mixture could be altered via the on board computer to make it tick over in the winter months cos otherwise it would cut out at the lights in the cold.. but he knew exactly what he was doing ... could the previous owner have messed with the on board settings ? ____________________ Whatever I post I have no citation and no intention of providing one..

The only thing can happen quickly is water getting in - usually due to a poor seal on the fuel cap - in which case you can drain the carbs into a receptacle and look for evidence of water without having to take them off the bike.
I think your problem is more likely to be electrical, it fits with having a healthy battery and a dying reg/rec. The healthy battery regains about half of its charge overnight, the reg/rec isn't doing a good job of charging it - although it may still be charging at tickover.
Get your multimeter out and check the charging system, you should be looking for 13-14V at tickover, and 14-14.5V at 4000 rpm. |
It was sitting for 3 months and I only started using it again last Friday.
The reg/rec is new. Changed it last year. When that went it was different. That's an obvious electrical thing. This is just like it runs out of petrol.
It is strange though. I rode it to work 12 miles to work on Monday then only got 500m on the way home.
It just sputters, backfires and loses power. Then, after 10 minutes, it'll start up fine, run for a few minutes and do the same thing again.
I'm suspecting that the carb is sticking and then goes down again after sitting for a few minutes. Then, after it's on the go for few minutes it gets stuck again. Strange that this would happen after a weekend of intermittent use and a ride to work though. ____________________ 2018 Speed Triple 1050 R
