I have a question regarding electrics on this bike. I might stick a thread in the workshop if I don't much in the way of answers here. (Not many people wanna follow the build of a pink moped )
Ignition wiring:
Depending on how well my LED lights handle it, I am planning on running a battery-less system. So the stator will be wired into the Reg/Rec, and then directly to the loom and electrics. Killing the engine, will of course, instantly kill the electrics.
This works well with the key and barrel I have got. I managed to keep one off an old CBR125 I was breaking for parts. It's a lovely OEM Honda ignition barrel with a Honda engraved key (Hence the reason I'd like to use it).
The barrel though, only has 2 wires coming out of it.
I am used to the simple 4-wire barrels which come on pit bikes. 2 wires which connect with ign on, and the other two disconnect.
With ignition off, they simply reverse.
The connecting wires to link up the electrics to the battery.
And then the disconnecting wires, to allow the coil to power the spark plug, rather than earthing it to the frame.
With a 2 wire stator (I need to check the function of the two wires yet, whether they connect or disconnect with keys on), how would one go about wiring up a loom with a battery (should I need to use one)?
Cheers,

Shot down to the garage and got some petrol.
Filled her up, made up a basic ignition loom (Still need to do one for the lights etc).
Pretty chuffed how easily it started with the cheapy carb on it. Little bit of fettling to be done with the air screw, but that's about all it'll need. I'm pretty confident it's jetted just right.

Wiring loom to be done, and a few stickers for the leg shield and she's about done.
I do need to make up a bump/lock stop for the bars as they are DAX yokes on Chaly frame. The stops don't line up.
Little project lined up for this though. I'm looking at adapting the 120cc Thumpstar engine to Semi Auto (Apparently it can be done), and then putting it into the Chaly.
120cc Thump engines are super punchy for their size. And also electric start, so nice and posh too! ____________________ - Honda XL125S - CBR400 NC29 - VFR400 NC30 - CBR400 NC29 - TL1000R - TeeZeR Pit! - Bandit 12 - YZF450 - LuckyMX125 Pit! - Demon X XLR 140 Pit!

So today, I pulled Chaly out of the garage:
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xlf1/v/t1.0-9/11988437_178681545816212_6065329868588465137_n.jpg?oh=ef915fb90ae29e29dbea63537467e686&oe=56E42645
And introduced the new power-house:
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xaf1/v/t1.0-9/12241207_178681579149542_4399748733254628103_n.jpg?oh=293694ed5cec55fe7430d619a6e7a1c4&oe=56B8BA32
Comparison of the two engines. Although the Thumpstar is a 120cc engine, it doesn't fall under the same category as the cheapy Lifan 120's etc. It's based on the bigger 125cc engines (YX125, Jialing etc), so it's quite a lump. Bigger ports, Mikuni VM22 carb, and a higher lift cam.
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xat1/v/t1.0-9/12243245_178762692474764_6673802868694680395_n.jpg?oh=3353d6c9e491909da7c8ea18ba2e55f2&oe=56EB633D
Clutch covers and clutches removed as I wan't to convert the Thumpstar from manual, to semi Automatic.
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpf1/v/t1.0-9/12243406_178762725808094_4826116325770067050_n.jpg?oh=a69c868f6fefd0b11720d7cdd50987db&oe=56EA228A
Centrifugal clutch, and clutch selector arm removed from the 70cc, and fitted into the Thump 120 engine:
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/11223749_178762779141422_7722764002480764817_n.jpg?oh=a7e3f66a82e502331e6e3c3e74c2f4ec&oe=56EF4657
And fitted up into the bike:

Careful trimming with the hole saw to make room for the bigger carb:
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfa1/v/t1.0-9/11223749_178762892474744_9076742335956323718_n.jpg?oh=9b23dbbfbc7644cff50e7d48489d4c68&oe=56ED6D45
Next job is to wire the thing up, including the electric start
Can't wait to hoon it. Think the Thumpstar 120 lump pushes out about 10bhp.
Just hope the centrifugal clutch can hold down that extra power. ____________________ - Honda XL125S - CBR400 NC29 - VFR400 NC30 - CBR400 NC29 - TL1000R - TeeZeR Pit! - Bandit 12 - YZF450 - LuckyMX125 Pit! - Demon X XLR 140 Pit!

I think apart from the anodised blue cover on the head it looks brilliant in the Chaly. 10bhp should be enough to make the bike really fun to ride and make the mahoosive front brake worth having too.
The 4speed box should be worth having too, and turn it into a damn good cruiser too!
Will you have to change the final drive gearing to suit the big motor too? |

That pit bike group really is a mess! Total waste of space cvnts. Haha!
And I don't like to hang around with my bikes because I'm excited about getting out and riding them!
Should have the Chaly wired up over the next few evenings. ____________________ - Honda XL125S - CBR400 NC29 - VFR400 NC30 - CBR400 NC29 - TL1000R - TeeZeR Pit! - Bandit 12 - YZF450 - LuckyMX125 Pit! - Demon X XLR 140 Pit!

Will have to pick some up next time I'm out and about.
Got the Chaly running today on the new engine.
It's, erm... Fast. So much torque compared to the 50/70cc lump, and it just picks up speed in all 4 gears, effortlessly.
Could probably go bigger on the front sprocket. Currently running the smallest available. I think it's a 12 or 13t.
Might up it to a 16 or 17, and see how it behaves.
It's a bit noisy from the crank cases. I'm wondering whether the centrifugal clutch doesn't sit as far onto the crank as the standard one. It whines like an over-tightened cam-belt does on a car. I'm almost certain that noise was not there before when the engine was in the Thumpstar.
It idles like a dog. I think it needs running up to OORacing once it's all done, for a dyno and tune up.
Fucking excited about getting it MOT'd on Wednesday. I've a feeling it's going to be a bit of a ped-boi muncher.

Excellent news!
I hope the auto clutch will cope ok with the power of the motor and you can find out why it's whining a touch, hopefully it's nothing serious though!
Your making me want to pull my KMX125 apart to fit the new tuned 200cc top end, that I told myself I wouldn't fit until id tried out the 125 once set up with all the best bolt on parts I can throw at it.
It does sound nice with a bit of a bark now! |

I sat and built a wiring loom for it today.
Nice and simple loom. No battery on it at the moment. When I come to wire up the electric start, I think for simplicity, I'm just going to have it on a separate harness, and charge the battery via an optimate, unless there is a fancy way of wiring it all in, as it currently doesn't have an ignition, simply a kill switch.
If I was to introduce a battery, I'm not sure how I would isolate it from the electrics when I turn the engine off.
Either way, it's done, and ready for an MOT on Wednesday.
Don't half motor along nicely with the 120.
