Yep they work well, assuming you can get the hose to seal properly on the nipple.

Yes they work. With two calipers you just bleed both sides. No big issues.

bleed the one further from the master cylinder first.

The little bleeder is good, the hose is crap... well rather it degrades over time and gets hard so won't hold on and seal well.

You can get suitable replacement hose from most places that sell fish tanks and related stuff (so probably eBay too).

I bought the right size clear plastic hose from B&Q.It comes off a big reel so it straightens easily.

The best way to connect to the bleed nipple is to use some rubber hose, about 2" long, that is a good fit over the plastic hose and on the bleed nipple. Then, when you undo the bleeder, the rubber hose distorts slightly but will not come off, unlike if you have the plastic hose directly onto the bleeder Thumbs Up

I've used this before, it worked really well. I might try reverse bleeding next time though.

They will work as long as you can get enough fluid to move from the master to the caliper. Sad

I have always found the most common issue with motorcycle brake bleeding is that the master cylinder puts out a tiny amount of fluid and take for ever to bleed because of this.

Most success I have had is using a pressure bleeding system. It is the most positive way to ensure you get fluid moving with minimal phaph.

Reverse bleeding with a syringe is quicker and much easier.

Good cheap hose can be purchased from halfords, 2.4meters for a couple quid. Its also very good as air hose. The thicker stuff is good enough as fuel hose on a carb bike Thumbs Up

Chemist. Or like I have done saved all the syringes used on me for the pic line I had fitted a while back.

Chemists don't sell syringes. Shocked

In my experience, to do it properly from the calliper up, you need a big enough syringe to hold a whole system worth - something like the 150ml jobby linked by MCN would probably do the job - little 5/10ml ones aren't up to the task.

Syringe may be the easiest way with an empty system but the bleeder valve was properly easy to use, way less faff than pushing bubbles all the way from the calliper to the reservoir when it's just a final bleed on an already full system.

I got a 100ml syringe free with 5l of isopropyl alcohol (emergency supply in case Mrs Borg polishes off the Scotch again).

Any film of brake fluid left in it will suck the moisture right out of it. Suck it until it's hard.

Much like barebacking a slag, you should always flush your hose through thoroughly as soon as possible.

I helped a friend earlier this year to replace old brake lines with some nice new braided hose lines,so the brake system was completely dry.Within ten minutes we were able to bleed the system and get satisfactory pressure, without the need for syringes or anything else apart from an old pickle jar to take the overspill.I have a Mityvac pump that I have used in the past on car hydraulic clutch systems, but I have never felt the need to use this device on motorbike brake systems.

What I would say is that many home mechanics have their own way of doing things and if that works for you then there is no need to change Thumbs Up

I have tried reverse bleeding and found it as much of a pain as 'forward' bleeding.

The most bestest method I have ever used for any vehicle is a pressurised tank feeding fluid (under pressure) into the reservoir.

Ezebleed

The only issue is that you need a cap to fit the reservoir if the caps in the kit don't fit.

There is a bit of ££ involved but when you bite the bullet and use a pressure bleeder you will wonder why the fcuk you phaphed with all the other homeopathetic remedies. Tying the lever back et al. Rolling Eyes

I used a ghetto method quite successfully recently. Having 'borrowed' several lengths of hose from work and not finding one that fit, I improvised.
Used a small plastic bag and poked a small hole in the bottom of it, then pushed the nipple through the hole and stuck a rubber band around it. Filled the bag with brake fluid, opened nipple and let it bubble away.

Filling and bleeding brakes should be done in a specific order or it will be a lot of effort. Does not matter which way you do it, air will want to collect at the master cylinder banjo, this is where most bleeding should be done, with calliper nipples just to check. I can do any dual calliper system in about 2 minutes filled and bled perfectly first time. Do in order:

Filling:
1) Remove bleed nipples and apply fresh PTFE tape. Refit. Master cylinder banjo should be clean, undo, fit fresh washers if needed. Do not fully tighten.
2) Suck any fluid from res and discard. Make sure res is clean. I use an old syringe for this. The one I use for filling is always stored in a sealed bag.
3) fill a clean syringe with 50ml fluid, use it to fill one calliper. Any time a nipple is open, you must apply presure and have fluid moving.
4) close nipple, pause and suck excess out res as it gets full and repeat until clean fluid and no bubbles. Use all of the 50ml fluid.
5) repeat other side using 50ml fluid.

Res should now be full, with clean new fluid and no dirt in the lines and very little air in the system mostly around MC banjo.

Bleeding:
1) With syringe on the same calliper and a good amount of fluid, apply syringe pressure, open calliper nipple, crack open the master cylinder banjo for couple seconds, close both before syringe empty and always with pressure. Have kitchen tissue around banjo to catch any fluid.
2) Without syringe, use master cylinder to bleed at the master cylinder banjo again, then repeat calliper bleed nipples. One squeeze of lever should be enough.

3) Tighten mc banjo to 30-34nm. Top up res.

If you use up more than 150ml fluid, your doing it wrong. If it takes over 5 mins, your doing it wrong.

60ml syringe is the correct size. 100ml holds too much and is hard to push with one hand, and cost a lot more.

Reverse bleeding is the way to go. Thumbs Up

You can get plastic syringes from eBay and you can try asking in a local pharmacy on the off chance they'll sell you one.

However they will almost certainly refuse to sell you a syringe and instead they'll offer you some leaflets for a needle exchange. Wink

Say YES to Drugs. (if you are a reverse bleed user)
