Hi
I voted Kawasaki, as they seem to be the ones we have had the most problems with.
Reliability wise the Bandit has been fine except for a blown engine that was my fault. Generally they do seem to suffer cosmetically.
Mechanically Yamahas seem to be indestructable. Generally very tough engines on the 4 strokes. The bugbear seems to be cosmetic finish.
Last Honda I had was my old MBX125, and that certainly blew up more than my RS125, but it was also older so probably not really fair to compare it. However I have had bikes long enough to remember Hondas very dodgy reliability reputation in the past, and take their current reputation with a large pinch of salt (people seem to forget the regular charging system problems).
The large 4 stroke Aprilias seem to have a very good reputation for reliability.
All the best

Bugger it's not there to vote for it;
Lifan 125 3A
Electrical connections on the wiring loom are poorly protected from the rain.
Crap tyres that were out very quickly
spark plug became faulty within a short time
end handle bar weights actually made of plastic rather than steel
On plus side it looked like a very nice bike ! |

Agree with kickstart my rvf is wonderful when its running but small problems have proven very annoying!
Blown rectifiyers and rotten collector box being the main culprits, at the moment i have a stella can wrapped around a pipe, sealed with putty and tied at both ends passed the mot without problem.....

bigger the bike the better the reliability at least in engine terms.
Ive own a couple from each make and here are my observation.
Small ie under 400 bikes from all manufacturers can be a bit crap.
400 and bigger the following general rule applies:
Honda: Good qualitygenerally and fairly reliable, but early fours eat camchains, and the Early VFs have serious issues. Finish good on big bikes.
Kawasaki: Variable-engines are good, especially the old aircooled fours, and if you exclude the dodgy GpZ 305. Electrics are so so and the finish is moderate to poor.
Suzuki: Lovely strong engines, good frames. But the electrics have been wired by blind mentally retarded monkeys, and finish rots off rapidly.
Yamaha: Jack of all trades, finish is ok, generally mechanically reliable, but the switchgear etc is a bit shite. They tend to be harder to work on than suzukis if something does go wrong however (like when my FZR went bang and dropped a valve) and the sports fours (FZ/FZR/R6/R1/Thunderace/Cat) have complex twenty valve heads which are total f**kers to work on. Their aircooled motors are good, and later diversion engines are extremely reliable. AVOID old XS400s SHITEALERT! |
