Hi all my RXS leaks fuel from the overflow pipe when the fuel tap is left on, i took the carb off to check inside and surprisingly it's very clean in there however the float looked as if it's not sitting quite right (i think the fuel in the float bowl fills up too much before the float gets a chance to shut off the fuel supply) i was wondering how you actually adjust the float height? from what i could make out it looks as if you need to ever so slightly bend the tag on the float that pushes on the needle valve that shuts off the supply of fuel to the float bowl, is this correct? i didn't want to go ahead and do it if it's not the right way of doing hence why I'm asking on her first! Smile

Appreciate any advice! Thanks in advance

Yup, that's the way to do it.. I would seriously look at the valve needle and seat first though. Really make sure they are clean, you can clean the valve seat by poking in a pencil as it won't scratch the brass. Consider fitting an inline filter after the fuel tap as well as none of these fuel tanks are going to be clean anymore.

Excellent thanks for the advice funny enough i just fitted an in line fuel filter the other day as it didn't have one, I'll have ago at adjusting the float height tomorrow if i get time, it looks quite delicate so I'm hoping i don't damage it!

Does anyone know where i measure the float height from? I've done some research and found that the float height needs to be 21mm but where do i take this measurement from? I have a digital vernier calliper to take the measurement with but I'm unsure of the where about's I'm meant to be measuring Laughing

measuring the float height can depend on the bike

on my kawasaki 80 you had to turn the carb upside down and measure up from the join where the bowl would sit

From what i remember...

Hold the carb upside down with the bowl removed.
hold up the float so that the metal tang on the float is just touching, but not pushing down the valve. You should now measure from the bottom (now its upside down, the top) of the float to the edge of the carb body where the gasket sits and measure 21mm.

Practically though, just adjust it till it doesnt leak fuel out of the overflow and it still runs well.... Trial and Error!

Shall i measure from the point you mentioned with the gasket on or off?

you'll probably find the gasket is stuck to the carb so try not to remove it or you'll make it fubar and have to wait for a new one, just take a look at the gasket and allow for the width of it
