 |
|
HI all.
So, went to remove front sprocket on my daelim vjf125. the fixing plate, instead of having two bolts, has one bolt, and some sort of security tab. It seems to have no way of removing without drillling out, as i asumme its threaded in the same way as the other bolt is.
Anyone p[lease shed some light on how to get the bugger out??
i know that the chain has tight spots btw, and its filthy!!! im waiting to get the sprocket off to replace both sprockets and chain together.
heres a link to a pic too, as i suck at attaching photos lol!!
Thanks all, in advance.

Doesn't seem useful, or even likely. How would they fit the pin then install the retainer? Try removing the one bolt and see if the retainer will turn to align the splines. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

I've seen "anti-tamper" bollocks on a Hyosung, but that takes the biscuit. Whyyyyy? You so cray-cray, Korea.
I'd assume that's a shear-bolt. You might have luck getting an Irwin bolt grip to bite on it.
Failing that, weld a nut on it?
A local garage would likely have it off in seconds. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Shear...
Tighten it up, the hex head snaps off leaving a rounded dome. It's likely just a regular bolt rather than a pin under the remaining head though; if you can get a grip on it it should rotate out.
Looks like the idea is simply to stop Joe Owner from changing the sprocket. I believe that Korea has or had some legislation about not tampering with the power train. The Hyosung I had a go at had adamantite rivets holding the end can on, I dulled several unobtanium bits drilling them out.
Look forward to similar anti-tamper insanity on A1 and A2 bikes sold in Europe from next year, although I don't know what details (if any) were settled on. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

hi,
seen plenty of these security/shear bolts on ignition barrels before but never on a front sprocket....
easy enough to remove diy though.
cut a slot in the domed head with a hacksaw or preferably a dremel.
a nice deep clean slot helps
then just use an impact driver or large screwdriver to undo the nasty "bolt".
then take it outside & kill it with fire, then bury it in concrete at the bottom of your garden
& then replace it with a standard bolt.
cheers,
GAZ |

Does look like a shear bolt.
One step back from a welded sprocket.
Wait a minute, I know a user on here who used to own a Daelim.... |
