Worn carbs needles / slides or a slightly tired engine.

Depends how it's been ridden. My GSXR1100 runs ok but has tickover issues cause the carbs are badly worn. 41k is plenty to knacker a set of needles if it's been ridden in town alot.

Hi

And if a dynajet kit has been fitted, the needles on those have a reputation for causing wear far more rapidly.

However the other thing to check is the cable for the idle speed adjuster. Can develop a fixed bend to it will only sit in one position. Hence one full turn is the smallest adjustment you can get it to hold.

All the best

Katy

I've just bought OEM needles and tubes for my 1100. Not cheap though.

I'm not a FZR expert, but most of the motorcycles have the idle between 1200 and 1500 rpm. Not many bikes (in-line fours) i've ever seen had the idle much lower than 1200 rpm.

I might be wrong though. Thumbs Up

Most are quite low, although often owners set them higher. FZR1000 EXUP is listed as 950~1050rpm.

Have you had a look at the carb rubbers (carb to head)?

If they are anything like the ones on mine, they are perished to fuck after 20 years and have cracks allowing air to leak in. Mine was a fucker for the tickover as well.
