It'll likely be intelligence led bombing. Thankfully we have more money going to the armed forces so this'll be easier in future.

The question is quite simple though - either get involved, or don't get involved. Seeing as every time we get involved in a war in a sandy country it tends to go badly, I can see why people don't want to get involved.

The big difference this time is you have Russian forces in the country. How far into Syria does NATO think the Turkish border extends?

Us joining the other 12 countries currently dropping bombs in Syria would be a political gesture rather than a strategic military decision. It will backfire in the long run however as it always does - we may kill a few of the scum but you can be sure we will kill a lot more innocents in the process, thus breeding further hate for the West and more terrorism. It is exactly what IS/ISIS/ISIL or whatever the hell they call themselves wants. You can't defeat an ideology with bombs.

What we need to do instead is stop the bombing and start a combined strategy of localised, intelligence-lead raids on strongholds, whilst at the same time making muslims hate ISIS more than the West via propaganda.

This would be far better than just repeating mistakes we have made many times post WWII....

Considering the outcome of the West bombing and interfering the Middle East in the past (which has caused a lot of the current situation people are so concerned about), i'm not convinced sending a few knackered Tornado's to drop some token bomb's is going to make much difference; if anything it might make us even worse off.

Something Einstein said nicely sums up our Middle East escapades Whistle

"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results".

The problem is, the 'regional troops' are numerous factions, with numerous and often conflicting allegiances, which are changing quicker than we can even keep up.

'We' outside Syria can't even decide amongst us who 'we' support. You have the Russian's funding one lot and bombing another lot, the Americans funding a different lot and bombing another lot, Turkey funding others, Saudi funding others.

In the meantime each 'lot' on the ground is changing who they're friends with and who they're fighting whilst they bicker over who owns which pile of rubble.

I would say its a 'complex political scenario'. But its not even that anymore - its just a big mess Laughing.

Bigger problems in our own country.

Strike planes are dime a dozen in NATO and in the region really. What is much thinner on the ground is unarmed intel, recon and command/control platforms because they are much more sophisticated and expensive. It's these that the UK is able contribute to most effectively. By this I mean things like...

We've got no lofty ideals, and no interest in destroying ISIS. They are pets of the Saudis, Turks and Western intelligence since day 1.

If we really wanted to destroy ISIS we would have aided the Assad government in regaining control, and coordinated and assisted the Russians in their air offensive.

The ideal is to topple Assad, it always has been. Anything else is just PR to feed some scraps to the masses. If ISIS or any other re-branding of NATO's Arab legion targets a city or other target in the West then it's still good, since they can use the public support gained from the attack to implement more draconian measures at home, against any dissenting members of the populace or spin to blame Assad, Russia, Iran or wherever. Unless the Blair/Cameron/Rothschild family are killed in any attack, then the real controllers don't give a fuck. Who cares if a few sheep get slaughtered? They're meaningless, and there's plenty more. Blair and Cameron are even expendable once they're past their sell by date. All any mass casualties are good for is playing the Mighty Wurlitzer of public opinion and stealing a good photo op for the TV and newspapers. Obama might even get in another selfie.

Keep importing more of those poor "Syrian" refugees tho. Allahu Akbar

Some ex Foreign Minister on Sunday Politics was saying there were 70,000 anti Assad moderates to use as the 'on the ground army'.

Really? What world do the politicians live in thinking they are all going to happily join together and do what we tell them.

One group is as bad as the other. Thumbs Down

Look all we need to do is this WE NEED TO STOP PRETENDING TO BOMB ISIS. Yes NATO/US have been pretending to carry out air strikes. Consider for a moment how ISIS a few months ago could have mile long columns of trucks with black flags on them. Like this:

https://buzzpo.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/isis-truck-convoy-anbar-province.jpg
(May Anbar)

A huge column of Toyota Hilux trucks with black flags

Now consider 1991 and the highway of death in Iraq.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highway_of_Death

The USAF can utterly devastate 3000 armoured vehicles in a period of a couple of days using 1970s technology. They used A6 intruders Vietnam vintage a few A-10s and a few Apaches.

Yet they can't hit a gigantic mile long column of trucks with ISIS flags on them like this:

https://buzzpo.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/isis-truck-convoy-anbar-province.jpg

Consider how ISIS gets its money from exporting oil. Oil tankers are you know big. Yet nobody was bombing them for years. Or think about oil installations, these things are huge. Bomb those too.

The Russians are scary to ISIS and the US because they are actually bombing for real.

Given its all so corrupt we either call America out on its dodgy relationship with the gulf states or we just keep the fuck out of it altogether, save shed loads of cash and spend it on homeland based anti-terror policing.

We could also buy lots of oil cheap from ISIS, stock pile it then fuck everyone else off.

Why are we so fucked off with the idea of a caliphate over in some fucking hole of desert anyway? Probably no worse than the shits running the arab world as it is anyway. The more I see of the situation the more I think fuck em all, fuck America, France, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Syria et-fuckin-cetera. Lets face it Britain was much more successful when we were pissing all over everyone instead arse-licking any one prepared to get in the que.

Probably because everyone is shitting it over the eventual depletion of oil. That's how it all started, let's face it. The amount of loopholes and dodgy reasoning, phony invasions, non-existent WMDs, etc... why fuck around so much in that part of the world? To dominate the area.

Real solution? Hurry up and get enough nuke power stations built and invest BIG TIME in electrifying all oil-based technology. Then the middle-east can do whatever the hell it likes. It'll just be another random location on the world map.

We're not. The Septics cannot tolerate oil being sold for anything other than dollah though.

We keep tailing on like Jabba's little cackling monkey-lizard in the delusional belief that they'll back us if we ever need them. </Falklands>
