Will be selling my CB500 in the spring. Have had it for over 2 years and I'm pretty bored of it now.

What bike should I get?

It will only be used for weekend fun. I want something with good power and handling. Would a 600 sportbike be too big of a jump?

Budget is about 4 grand.

No. Unless you're a complete spaz.

Help us to help you. A budget would be a start.

Something like a Fazer thou or a Bandit 1250 would be worth considering. Similar riding position to the CB500, but with torque and fewer vibes.

Hostility in the face of a gentle nudge to provide info
Seriously - naked or faired, good for pillion or single seat, prefer IL4 or twins, what bikes have you tried and liked, can you insure anything or is insurance prohibitive?

We don't even know if you're on a full unrestricted licence.

But fine, suit yourself chum

Can you think of a reason not to get a Street Triple?

A V-Max owned by a one-legged vicar has to be on everyone's bike shopping list! Very Happy

They're quite uncommon in my neck of the woods, so they are relatviely expensive and over my budget.

He is interested in a 600 sports, that narrows it down quite well I think.

Does it include 675s. 600 sports is quite a range. You've got the faggot CBR600F or the miles better 600rr. Then you've got their new 650F Crying or Very sad

You've got quite a few 600 floating.... choice of one should be "best for your money" but I stick with the GSXR1000 K6

Was thinking possibly about a GSX-R750. The extra torque seems that it would be a better road bike than the 600 supersports?

Definately don't want a 1000cc any time soon. I say coming from a 500 twin, that a 600/750 sports inline 4 will be more than enough.

The 750 isn't better than the 600 that much. Nothing different between a 600 and 1000 sports. You'll only do what our wrist says. You'll have more than enough power without needing high revs, in fact you'll always have mega power anywhere.

All I'd ask the OP is where will he be buying from, and what bikes are reasonably available where he is?

If I wanted a Street triple that much and had £4k I'd keep looking until I found one I could afford, regardless of travel.

But as he's slightly expressed an interest in fully faired 600cc sports bikes, then I would go and have a look at some. Do you like, and can you get on with the riding position? Do you like or want a fairing?

If so then it's easy to buy a generic 600cc sportsbike for £4k. It's almost laughably easy to find good 600's for a lot less cash too. But how new/current does OP want in next bike?

If I saw for example a mint F-series ZX6R that was stunningly clean, and local for £15-1800 or so I'd buy it straightaway simply because it's too good a bike/deal to pass up.

If you want to spend all of your £4k then look at what years of bikes fit your budget and go from there. Id expect you could get 08/09 600's for £4k now, and none of the sportsbikes are good or bad enough to avoid at all costs, or sit head and shoulders above the rest either.

Finish, riding position, comfort, and style being about the biggest differences between them, but performance, weight and mpg will all be similar.

Oh and Condition is king over colour, age, mileage or service history, unless it's a project bike instead.

Speed four mint = £2000, Enduro (with supermoto goodies)= £2000 that's what I would be doing. Swap out S4 for Hornet, fazer etc as you wish or chuck in a lower powered 1000cc V-twin, raptor, vtr firestorm.

I went cb500 speed four, you cannot ride the speed four like the cb500 without speeds getting far to fast for the road. You can keep the cb500 pinned a lot of the time, you cannot with a 600 without going 100+. That's why a litre sports bike is pointless.

I enjoy riding my cbr6f near its limit on my commute. I see no need for a faster bike for road use, its all just a preference, how much you want to be using your right hand. If it is just weekend fun, and you might take it on track, the extra power might be more useful.

Buy a £2000 600 sports and keep the difference for track sessions Thumbs Up
