The opposite for me, but I started on bikes.
Keep the front wheel just before it's going to lift and you've got it close-enough nailed on the bike. With a car it's a case of being just before you get wheel spin, which for me is harder to judge.

Assuming mechanical handbrake. Legal method for FWD/AWD cars - release hand brake at the same time feed in the throttle smoothly & quickly while feeding out the clutch in the same manner. When the steering starts to feel slightly lose feather the throttle gently until normal steering returns.

It's not the only legal method of pulling away but it's the fastest legal method. All faster methods require spinning your wheels. So unless you're on snow/ice then you're more than likely going to fall foul of "driving without due care & attention" as well as "failing to control your vehicle".

Just to be even even more off topic. Laughing
The latest Ford Focus RS is hardly even out on sale yet. When did 58bhp CB500's stop being built?

The lurid Kermit green mostly Mk2 RS is a good chunk slower accelerating (still hugely impressive for a 4wheel vehicle that many people can buy), and it's also an fwd'er not a 4wd like the latest/current only just model.

Even more off topic since we're on about peoples launching skills, but how easy is it to launch these modern ultra trick superbikes like the Ducati 1299 and new R1 with the launch control and anti flip like a bastard devices?

Do you pin the throttle at the lights, and hold on tight and the bike will sort everything out while you go into warp factor 10?

Firstly speedo's are known to be inaccurate on most bikes and various reasons the 250rr more likely.. few have standard size tyres, my rear is larger profile (which should make it more accurate). Mine will indicate 220km/h where the needle will stop although still accelerating very slowly. A good example is the tacho, although it reads upto 20k (19.5k in your vid), this graph shows limiter is 17k as standard.. not much higher than a 600rr Laughing You can see the ignition is retarded, apparently to protect the engine. I believe if they redesigned this engine with modern technology it could have significantly more power.

Power, most bikes loose a bit at redline, unless they are tuned for racing. 250rr's are tuned and geared to be very rideable, and my claim of top speed being achivable at 13k rpm is not far off according to this graph. Riding on the limiter is retarded.

The actual rpm when mine is indicating 13k is likely to be ~12k.

Go on then helmet cam photo showing GPS reading 136 MPH (your claim of 220 kph) and tacho showing 13k.

I think you are full of shite.

I claim 220+km/h indicated with a speedo I suspect is not the most accurate so you can fuck off with your GPS reading of 136mph. Most speedos over read 10% so I'm fairly certain it will be at or above 120mph considering the tire is larger profile.

However my original point was that a CB500 would *not* be suitable for higher speed commuting. It might do it occasionally but holding it would explode the engine. It'll be right on the limiter

CB500's rev very nicely to nearly 11k and would not explode held at 110-120mph for 6hours if you stopped for petrol.

As for your CBR, first your saying the indicated speed might be out a bit which is normal, and then your saying the indicated rpm is 1000rpm above true engine speed.

You also said engines tend to lose power at or just before the red line, it depends on the engine, but it would be totally normal on an IL4, even a WSB bike will drop off before the rev limiter, its not a fault though!

Another +1 for an NTV600/650

Ive owned a few of them. One went through 2 winters with one wash and was still not too rusty. They will hit 100mph no problem which is fast enough for a normal motorway jaunt. As others have said needs a 6th gear and lacks a bit of edge but perfect for motorways. It's basically a car on two wheels

I reckon it's a good choice for what you want. Never ridden one but reviews rate them as a decent bike. They seem to come up cheap for their age so you get a lot of bike for not much money.
