I consider myself a fairly well educated guy, with a reasonable command of the English language, hell, I even scored an 'A' at English language 'O' Level, two years ahead of time, but.........

Reminds me of those Japanese owner's manuals for bikes, that got translated into English and now read as total bollox. ____________________ Things get better with age; I'm close to being magnificent........

|
I was not going to but after seeing all the negative replies I thought I would come to the poor lads defence.
I have read your charity begging webpage and I have come to a few conclusions and have a few questions.
Do you have any experience in media? As you will be intending to start a blog I would have thought some basic experience in media would be a good thing to have mentioned as you do want us to essentially buy al your gear for you. What are we investing in exactly?
| Quote: | What I intend to do is to share these views I have accumulated in my vlogs and talk about current world events through the perspectives of the viewpoints I have come to acquaint myself with. |
Which brings me onto this:
| ArcanPhox wrote: |
I am an 18 year old |
At 18 years old what views on the current world events could you possibly have? At 18 years old all you are interested in is smoking weed and getting drunk. You do not care about the world as long as long as your little bit of it is fine and you get what you want (from us it seems with the amount you want to raise)
| ArcanPhox wrote: | I have been riding since I turned 16 on a 50cc V-Clic. These days I am riding a YZF R-125.
|
You have been riding for 2 years and currently riding on a 125 "crotch rocket" as you termed it. With all that experience riding around I look forward to some fantastic videos.
| Quote: | As far as risks go, there are very little to no risks involved. I already ride daily, the only difference would be that now I would be documenting it. |
You ride in London on a 125cc motorcycle on L plates with some of the most aggressive drivers in the UK and you claim there is little to no risk involved. I've ridden in London a couple of times. The place is full of risk. I know a few guys on here who have been knocked off their bike in London and they have been riding for more than your pitiful 2 years.
| Quote: | I have a daily ride to and from Central London (near The City) from Heathrow Airport. This affords me the opportunity to catch the take-off/landings at Heathrow Airport which are always a sight to behold as well as the opportunity to pass through famous landmarks in London, including but not limited to:
The Mall
Buckingham Palace
Trafalgar Square (Featuring Nelson's Column and National Gallery)
National History Museum
Piccadilly Circus |
Cant wait, sounds riveting. I have never seen these landmarks before.
I'll close with this little gem.
| Quote: | Due to my age, I am currently limited to riding a motorbike with a maximum displacement of 125cc. As such, my current daily motorbike is a Yamaha YZF-R125. I will be able to move up to my A2 license early this summer and upgrade to a 300cc / limited 300cc+ motorbike. |
As you are 18 years old I suspect the £2K you are after is not for starting a Vlog. As you said at the start, your have done some tests therefore you have some gear and I suspect mother dear bought you a Gopro for xmas last year. I strongly believe you are turning 19 very soon and you intend to use our money to pay for your A2 DAS course.
My advice would be get a job, stop sponging off others and asking them to pay for your shit. If you have a job, I cannot think of anything I would love to watch less than you going back and forward to work every day in Central London. ____________________ illuminateTHEmind wrote: I am just more evolved than most of you guys... this allows me to pick of things quickly which would have normally taken the common man years to master

I want to agree with Pink Floyd and say he's just after easy money for something else.
But the depth of detail and sheer stupidity of it makes me think otherwise. There must be a million other kickstarter ideas that a fraudster could go with. Riding an L-plated 125 on a generic commute into London is never going to work.
OP is real and therefore

First things first, lets begin by stating that although I was trying to keep previous posts semi-sophisticated and as non-offensive as possible, that is not a requirement for this post.
To start off, thank you to the users to posted general positivity and advice e.g. Poseidon, robs321, etc...
mJZ : "Children of the social media era... they all think they are special, interesting, talented, etc..."
1 - Correct, I am a child of the social media era. Social media has developed to be an effective tool for social outreach and is used by corporations and individuals alike to achieve their goals.
2 - Do I think I am special, interesting and talented? I definitely think I'm interesting otherwise I wouldn't be starting a vlog would I? I don't think I am any more special or talented than the next guy, I'm just trying to start up a vlog...
robs321 : "Get a job, save some money, buy what you like, its how we used to do it"
Absolutely valid comment, I imagine that is the view many of the commenters hold in their ruthless bollocking
That being said, I am currently at uni studying, I get out the house at 7, have a 90minute commute to get to 9AM lectures and most days only leave uni at 5PM. Weekend are dedicated to reports and assignments leaving me at best 1 day free a week, with an incredibly random schedule. I am not going to pretend I am a tortured soul but it is incredibly difficult to find a position flexible enough to be compatible with my studies.
Rogerborg : Your comment was lengthy and colourful, people can go back and read it if they so wish:
Let's talk about this 2000GBP figure. This kickstarter project was not meant to succeed in the first place. This is a pilot project I started to gauge reactions, I expected to get a right bollocking as is the case right now and use that as an opportunity to start a discussion with the community by replying as is the case right now.
Yet, you raise a valid point, I have indeed not provided a showcase video and that is completely stupid, unfortunately the PC I use for video production developed a faulty PSU which is currently being replaced so a video will be made available eventually. That being said, another reason a video has not been made available is because whatever video I present now would only testify to my editing abilities and would say nothing of the content I intend to create. This is due to the fact I don't have the equipment as I have stated many a times.
As for the interest in seeing my head popping under a bus like a watermelon I recommend you check yourself into a medical institution
Surbitom : Pilot project, not meant to succeed, why would my mum give me a tenner?
NJD : "Tell me what you can offer that BVG or RJ cannot and I'll be tempted to watch"
Absolutely, this is an issue that should have been clearly addressed. The main point is that the target audience is different. I don't intend to compete with RJ or BVG, my target viewers would be teens stating off, or in the progression up to their full license as they go through the new license system that shafts you in the arse without a hint of vaseline.
"Aldi have a camera for 30GBP.."
Absolutely, there is cheaper gear out there, however their specs don't match up with a GoPro Hero3+ / Hero 4. There are many problems with cheaper gear, one of them being the peripherals. Mounts, cases, support, remote control capabilities, smartphone access etc. can only be exploited on a GoPro. Furthermore, the GoPro has technical specs which are purely superior. Even though a GoPro and a random 30GBP camera may both record at 1080p the record rate will be way worse, not even accounting for viewing angles and light sensitivity etc...
The Shaggy D.A. : Sorry my replies took so long, I was busy not scratching my balls waiting for the money to rake in
wristjob: Sounds like you got your definition of self-actualization from Urban Dictionary... Self-actualization is 'the desire for self-fulfilment, namely the tendency for the individual to become actualized in what he is potentially' - as used by Abraham Maslow in A Theory of Human Evolution...
kerr : '15GBP mic tucked under the cheekpad you mean?'
That would be on solution, but not quite. For sound recording I would be using a stereo microphone built somewhere into the chin so you get equilateral sound, connected to a dynamic sound recorder so it adjusts sound levels between when I am talking and when I am not so you hear the sounds around me and the sounds of the bike.
Helmet - I have an open faced helmet. Can't quite do anything with that.
Mounts - Valid comment. A helmet mount for the GoPro would be enough, potentially. Unfortunately I would also be running intercoms and a seperately looped microphone. What that means is that I need to attach battery packs and wiring from the helmet to a bag that might need to be modified. Also, there are some other less used mounts which can be mounted for some really cheeky editing tricks which would look awesome but all these mounts cost upwards of 30GBP, so it was worth putting it on the list.
-Matt- : 'Have you considered being a writer?'
Nah, I quite dislike writing actually. To be honest, I quite dislike the style with which I wrote the kickstarter page but it is meant to appease all audiences so I can't be over-simplified and straight to the point and a little embellishing is at hand.
wristjob : Gentlemen, we have a return costumer!
'He didn't expect the warm encouraging welcome he got...'
Quite the contrary, this is exactly the wristjob of a welcome I expected. As previously stated, this first kickstarter is meant to build rapport with the various audiences and gauge reactions as well as finding opportunities for improvement. I may have given off the impression that I am a sheltered child but I am nothing of the sort, I am a very straight-forward individual and live under no illusions.
dydey90 : An unexpectedly solid comment. The question of rewards was quite difficult for me. I did put up some rewards on the KickStarter page but they were quite rushed and not exactly useful. I was hoping that some suggestions would be made as a result of the various forum interactions, I considered getting stickets/vinyls made but I have not designed a logo/banner yet.
thx1138 : I didn't quite understand if it was a positive or negative comment or what the exact point you were conveying was so I can't quite give a good response, I'd be happy to reply to any further comments you have though.
Ariel Badger : Although a little cheekwork on sailors never hurt nobody it is frowned upon in this day and age, damned political correctness gone mad!
Shaft : Your comment is valid, that sentence was convoluted, I was actually going to cut it out but ended up rewriting a bit of it and it just ended up making matters worse...
deadwolf: Understandable comment, I too felt like it was a bit too vague but what I do want to do is difficult to explain without actually showing what it would be like, and since I don't have the gear to do so it creates a bit of a paradox.
pinkyfloyd : Must say, most of the other comments were pretty supericial, you really put in some effort, and you raise valid points!
1 - Experience in Media.
I do have some experience in media, not in content creation. I started doing editing as a hobby and took on a few projects from friends etc to keep me busy. Nothing big but they were completed to a presentable standard, nothing short of what you would expect in a YouTube vlog.
2 - Views on the world
The response to this is twofold. Firstly, I would self-confidently go on a limb and say I am little gem amongst 18 year olds and wisened beyond my years, and understadibly that is not close to being a valid response. Secondly, my target audience is exactly 16-21 year olds who are in a very similar position to mine, hence, my 'inexperienced' view would be what the viewers would be coming to watch and to those who are more mature it would be a source of amusement as these bollockings have been.
3 - 'I have never seen those landmarks before(!)'
Indeed, most people have seen those landmarks before, but how many have actually gone into the National Gallery, how many know why Nelson's Column faces the direction it does?
Part of my content creation would be not only showing these landmarks but also giving a little bit of trivia about them etc, as well as eventually visiting them on camera with commentary.
Weasley - I agree, the rewards are a bit pitiful, like I said, I am looking for ideas.
Closing Comments:
I am not actually riding on L plates, I have done my license but the new laws mean I have to ride a 125, regardless of experience. A random 19 year old with 0 experience could come along and do their CBT, my current license and their A2 license and start riding a limited 600cc, but I am just not able to proceed up the ranks.
Some really valid comments made here, including the fact that the page is far too vague, hopefully I'll be able to get some display content made, edited and uploaded for showcase purposes even though it is going to be far from what I have in mind.
Others were just jumping on the bandwaggon of rage and indignation and to you I have one thing to say - Thank you. Your comments as well as visits to the kickstarter page make web algorithms work in my favour, bringing up the popularity of my posts so feel free to keep posting hate and flaming.
Any further comments or questions, please go ahead ____________________ Attempting to start a motovlog at : https://kck.st/1Q6Px1A |

But you would be competing with them though because (1) you're both motovloggers on youtube (2) you're both in and around London.

Bollox, do your market research ffs. See this as an example. It is a fake version of the "SJ 4000" of which is a fake copy of the GoPro but to prove your point untrue it's clearly advertised with all the accessories you could ever need.
| ArcanPhox wrote: | Furthermore, the GoPro has technical specs which are purely superior. Even though a GoPro and a random 30GBP camera may both record at 1080p the record rate will be way worse, not even accounting for viewing angles and light sensitivity etc... |
"Record rate", you mean FPS? (to my knowledge FPS is the same regardless, 30 FPS is 30 FPS). On the counter light sensitivity is indeed varied on what action camera you purchase. FYI GoPro 3+ isn't all that great at anything past 9:00pm (currently) due to winter darkness, don't be expecting miracle quality all the youtube videos you watched are edited. GoPro's out the box quality isn't great when it comes to youtube, is perfectly adequate for just watching the files though. |

Don't overwhelm me with your witty insults and your expert knowledge on how to perform an oil change... |
Funny that, was aimed at the younger riders of the motorcycling community, only without the sponging.
It's ashame as I was really looking forward to watching your videos.
Particularly; 'Along with my normal style of discussion type riding, my videos will feature my attempts at interacting with London pedestrians/drivers (those of you from London will know that talking to strangers in this cold city of ours is easier said than done). I am an outspoken and outgoing person so you can expect some interesting situations to unfold!
Furthermore, it is my intention to make my vlogs as age-sensitive as possible, therefore, all profanity will be censored/edited out, and as far as possible avoided. That being said, there are bound to be topics of discussion which are not suitable for younger audiences, and in such cases clear warnings shall be displayed so no-one is caught out by surprise.'
Perhaps start a thread up on mumsnet?
Better off sticking to your imaginary land, princess.
