I need help. My parents have been giving me a hard time because the house stinks of petrol. I don't know how it does but it does. I work on the bike outside in the garage. Then I come in and sit in my room. But somehow the whole house stinks of petrol. What's best for getting rid of the smell?

Open the windows and air it out.

And find the source of the smell (clothes you've been working in?) and remove them.

Assuming the smell of petrol isn't dangerously strong, then just light up some scented sticks around the house.

Is the garage under the house?

I had this problem the smell went from the garage up into the ceiling/floor gap and went around the house.

I had to block up the wholes (electrical pipes etc) in the garage.

Have you got a fuel tap on the bike? It may help if you turn it to OFF. Check for any fuel containers in the garage too. Or you need to ventilate the garage while you're in there.

Leave an open can of petrol in their bedroom while they're sleeping. When they wake up, they'll be high and think the rest of the house smells unpetrol'y.

Petrol smells great anyway. Especially leaded.

I'm guessing your garage is built onto your house then, my current garage is this way and if I run the bikes or work on the bikes in there with petrol about it almost always stinks the house out and annoys my mum Laughing

Can't wait to move as I should have a garage completely seperate to the house so I can make it smell as petroley as I like without no one complaining Razz Laughing

Garrage overalls? leave them in there, wear latex gloves when doing anything petrol related then bin them when you go inside.. its been linked to lukemia Thumbs Down

I do exactly the same but never end up stinking the house out with petrol smells??? is it getting on your clothes or shoes maybe?

Diesel smells so much better for my beak, so good infact that I would wear it as aftershave.

Like klause post a few above that's how my house ends up stinking of fumes, it leaks up through the roof under floor boards and into the rooms.

Take up smoking, they won't complain about the smell of petrol then.

Seriously though I'd open all the windows, and ventilate the house, and then attack the furniture with febreeze.

Maybe there's ventilation between the house and the garage, in which case maybe you could cover it over to stop the stink?

Or you could drink loads of Guinness and let the gasses flow, then your parents won't complain about the stench of petrol...

Fabreeze is a students washing machine. Just hang your dirty clothes up and spray them with Fabreeze/lynx.

I had this problem once before because an overflow pipe had filled with petrol. It went away after about a week.

Does your bike have a fueltap? If so turn it off.
