 Posted: 19:04 - 12 Dec 2015 Post subject: Help with CG 125 - CAFE RACER STYLE |
 |
|
Hey all I've recently just passed my CBT I've brought a CG 125cc 98 REG... To practice on for a year before I do my direct access, now as you'd expect the CG isn't in pristine condition and I'm looking to change the following -
1/ rectangular light
2/ petrol tank ( MORE OF A CAFE RACER STYLE )
3/ the seat
4/ handle bars
5/ indicators
6/ colour of the fairings ...
7/ different exhaust style
8/ service
9/ change speedo
So as you can see I'm pretty much looking to go for a cafe racer style, my main question would be what other petrol tank will suitably fit my CG125?
Has anyone got any tips for me to help transform my CG please? NO SARKY COMMENTS PLEASE... Thanks everyone. |

Yes, we do need to know the answer to this question: do you have more money than sense? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

You can practise for a year before doing DAS, or you could do you DAS now and then practise for a year.
Make a CG125 cafe racer thing if you want to, it's got nothing to do with doing DAS.
If you want to transform it, fill it up with petrol and go ride it. That's not a sarky comment, it's a suggestion based on the assumption that you've got an interest in riding motorcycles. |

Yup, one bolt. There are two semi-circular mounts at the front. With the rear bolt removed the tank will lift up at the back and you can then pull it rearwards and up off the mounts.
This is a very useful resource for the CG, covering most maintenance and fault finding:

I really would suggest that unless you're prepared to throw the bike away that you leave it standard. CGs have a "bulletproof" mystique about them and may even start to increase in value - if left unmeddled. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

It'd have to be really old to have 6V. UK models went to 12V in 1985.
1995 saw electronic ignition rather than contact breakers.
2001 got electric start.
2004 got a front disc brake and fuel gauge but lost the chain casing (booo).
First port of call for any electrical problem is to spend £5 on a basic multimeter and then watch a few "how to use" videos on YouTube. It takes most of the guesswork out and will save you a lot of time and money.
Actually the first port of call for a headlight is to take the bulb out and see if the filament has blown. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I miss my CG
I agree with everything Roger has said. How tatty is your paintwork, and to echo just how old is your CG
The question I really wanted to ask is, is the headlight not working at all or is it just really feeble.
If it's that the light is really feeble then it's probably working to capacity, I remember a certain a mount of guesswork in riding at night. ____________________ Kal...
