Hi folks, as I'm typing this I guess I know the answer, but....
After filling up today in my local supermarket, the woman in front was confused about which pump she ought to be paying for (quite elderly, 70+) She wasn't quite sure which pump she had parked at, and when the attendant suggested the correct one,"Pump 12?" she squinted out of the window and said " I don't know, i cant see, I haven't got my glasses on"
The sign at the pump was MASSIVE, a huge number 12 for all the world to see, but she couldn't see it?
I said, quite loudly for to hear, "You're driving a car, but you can't see THAT?" pointing to the huge yellow and black sign above her car!
The attendant said my actions were rude, and how did I know that she was the driver..... said old lady then got into the drivers seat and drove off.
I would feel (be) guilty if anyone was injured, but have a feeling that the rozzers would not be interested unless a crime had been commiited....
Your thoughts please.. |

Police probably not that interested... DVLA not that interested either.
A friend's mother is a doctor, and she contacted the DVLA to have her fathers licence suspended until being assessed by a doctor as fit to drive.
DVLA refused to as she was not an independent party. In the two weeks it took to have friends grandfathers GP request a report from ophthalmic surgeon and forward to the DVLA, there had already been an accident resulting in injury.
Granted the police concluded it wasn't his fault, but did determine he was not properly fit to drive and that directly contributed to not being able to avoid an avoidable accident.
In fairness to him, he (probably) genuinely believed he was fit to drive, as he comes from a background where occupational health requirements far exceeded driving fitness, and had self-declared temporarily unfit numerous times throughout his career and undergone voluntary medical evaluation... but the DVLA missed their chance to prevent an injury, which could have been a lot worse actually, and probably would have done if not for quicker-than-average (for age) reaction times and higher-than-norm SA.
DVLA are useless, police probably don't care, not much you can do. ____________________ Current Bike: 1999 Honda CB600 FX Hornet

I wonder how the 'cut her some slack' posters would respond if she knocked them off their bike because she didn't see them?
Hey it's OK though because she might have forgotten her glasses/marbles just that once and she only ever drives the same route so she knows all the obstacles |

Many half dead, myopic little old ladies driving battle scarred Micras and Corsas round here. I guess it's a symptom
of living in a small parish town with many old folk.
With many I reckon it's a case of hubbys gone and when he was alive he drove everywhere. A lot of them would
have learned to drive purely as a hobby, multiple car families are very common now, not so much when they
would have obtained their licences. My wifes Nan was like that, she could see fine and was very well generally.
But her husband always drove and once he was dead she had to dust off her 70's acquired licence and take
to the roads after a 40 year hiatus. Absolutely fugging terrifying!!! In particular on faster roads. She refused
to use the motorway at all Her judgement at the wheel was appalling. Couldn't plan ahead, poor spatial
awareness, poor use of controls. Yet perfectly legal. I guarantee I could drive better after 3 pints (and I
rarely drink) than she could on her very best day at the wheel on empty roads. But one of us would lose
our licence if stopped by the rozzers and it wouldn't be her, that's for sure. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha
