Today, I was cleaning my old Q6600, after I was done, I plugged all back in, turned it on, but forget to plug in my PC speakers. When I touched the jack (the amp was off), so I could plug it in, while having my hand on the PC case, I got a small electric shock from the tip of the 3.5mm jack. With my hand off the case, it doesn't do it.

What's going on here? Thinking

Everything works as it did before, by the way. I do not recall this happening before.

You could see what happens if you touch the plug while grounded on a different metal object?

No, can't do. Everything else around me is either in wood or plastic.

if i touch the jack for my pc speakers I hear a buzzing and sometimes a crackle.

there's static everywhere and the speakers are sensitive enough to pick it up.

stop yer bitching.

There's a difference between noise like mains hum caused by ground loops and enough voltage to cause a shock. The former is a PITA, especially if you're running a DAW, the latter is potentially dangerous.

You have your finger on the tip of a 3.5mm jack of mains powered speakers and another hand on the PC case? That sounds like your speaker system has a problem. Use a multimeter on AC to measure any voltage present. If your PC case had large stray AC or DC voltages present then I'd expect it to fry components.

Incidentally dangerous voltages and using hands as the test probes is the worst thing to do. If there is anything nasty it would travel straight through your heart.
