Hi all, had a lot of issues with my DTR bogging and stalling out. Assumed it was an air leak somewhere as it was a bit rough on idle, searched all over the bike for air leaks and replace or fixed any possible air leaks, bike then ran fine. Went out on a 20 mile ride, then went Sainsburys and filled the tank up (was unleaded before anyone assumes it was diesel, I'm very cautious at the pumps. Once bitten, twice shy.) Added two stroke, gave it a swirl to mix the oil and pulled off, got about 3 miles away from the petrol station and it began bogging at the higher rev range, approx 7-8K rpms when the power valve kicks in.

Now it will only manage to do a mile or so and bogs the whole way before bogging and stalling out to not start again for about 10 minutes, then pulls off again bogging. Until the day before yesterday when it never fired back up and I had to walk the bike home. Evil or Very Mad

Anyway, I've looked at the exhaust port, is some very light scoring on the cylinder wall and the usual carbon on the piston, as expected after a couple thousand miles. Taken the spark plug out, it was very oily and probably running slightly rich, cleaned it up and replaced it, still not starting. Put a old plug in that ran fine prior still nothing.

I'm going to clan the carb tomorrow, but I've had carb problems before and it only bogged at high RPM's and leaked petrol out the overflow. It's never just not started. Neutral

Sorry for the wall of text. Thumbs Up

Edit: Put won't spark, in actual fact meant wouldn't start.

You don't have the pump on there? Have you up jetted to deal with petrol/oil premix.

Nope, never had any issues prior. Been running it premix for the last three years and it's on a #240 main jet. Thumbs Up

I'm hoping the jets are clogged or something. Was going to clean the carb today but can't be bothered with the rain.

And my names Luke, not Reece. Been here for three years, check my post history. Thumbs Up

Well...If that's a stock jet and the bike came with a pump you'll need to go up a bit on the jetting.

By how far is a bit? It has absolutely no issues isn't running lean or rich I change the plug once every year or so and it's always nice, not getting hot or rich.

The oil pump has been fully removed, and taken from the R/H side of the engine casing and a blanking piece of aluminium bolted in with a gasket behind it. Feeding pipe near the reedblock cage has been blocked off also. Never had a single issue apart from when it's been sitting, which it has done for a couple of months, so I think the petrol evaporated and the oil didn't whilst it was sitting.

I wouldn't generally go up more than 1-2sizes on the main jet for pre-mix fuel, but this depends on what pre-mix ratio your running? The less oil you add the less it will lean out the fueling.

But why are you cleaning out the carb and looking for blocked jets if you don't have any spark at the plug yet? I would just as easily say it could be an electrical issue that's affecting your spark and this could just as easily make the plug look oily or rich as a fueling issue would.

Confused It has a spark. Confused

And I'm running a 25:1 ratio. 125 ML of 2 stroke per 5 litres.

And it was fine for over 20 miles before filling up with Sainsburys petrol, then it began bogging. Now it wouldn't even go up the road without bogging.

And I'm using fully synthetic off-road 2 stroke as it's running premix. As for the oil pump it failed on a country lane at 60MPH demolishing my top end and doing the bearings and seals in the bottom end. So the whole thing got removed and lobbed in the bin where it belongs.

I've ran this bike almost 3 years on premix along with the same oil, stored in the same manor and never had a slight hiccup apart from when leaving it sitting and having to clean the carb out. Thumbs Up

I'll clean the carb tomorrow (well, technically today) and whilst I'm there empty the fuel out into cans and have a look at the fuel filter.
