Last Sunday I put the new (to me) K1100 radiator on the K100, and today I filled it up and ran it to see if it leaks. It didn't! Yayyyyy.

https://i.imgur.com/2bVcnpE.jpg

Now to wrestle the bizarre "rubber dam" into the space between the top of the radiator and the frame/gubbins above it, and then wrestle the radiator grille and side panels into an angle where I can get most of the screw holes to line up. It's an awful job..

Norralot - just cleaned it and lubed all pivot points, plus a bit of preserver sprayed into its nether regions, etc. etc. Had an ace time off-roading again yesterday but my god the going was good to soft and often heavy. Been putting off chucking a fresh ac10 on the back and I'm actually sort of glad cos I still enjoyed it a lot (plus my mate's is a fair few mil down on mine and if he can manage I should damn well be able to). Anyway yeah - this's all me klx250. Despite MCN's execrable and almost perversely stupid review of this bike (hint - it's better than the crf250l), it's great for laning. Not fast, nor powerful - but the geometry's great and the suspension excellent. I give it a bit of stick here and there and it really shrugs it off. Anyway, after the pressure hose (useful but mind those bearings), there was still mud in nooks and crannies, and bits of lubing needed - so it all got done yesterday.

Hid in the garage and cuddled her to hide from the fucking wailing chaos indoors.

Merry sodding Christmas.

As the C900rr is gone, the attention is now back to the monkeybike.

As I've had trouble in the past with brackets snapping for the licence plates and lights I've taken the decision to revert back to standard so off came the extended swing arm and back in with stock.

So today was me dismantling the rear of the bike and putting it back on again before a little tootle round the garden.

Next up is getting the fork seals changed and sorting out the insurance on Tuesday then it's back on the road after a 12 month break in the shed.

The CB250 has been a little less happy than normal recently, particularly when not up to temperature, very particularly on cold mornings. A loss of happiness/sweetness/glance-at-the-starter-button-and-away-it-goesness is usually a sign that the spark plug gaps have become a little too wide. Sure enough, a quick check revealed they were at about 0.75mm when the spec is 0.6-0.7mm. A few taps and they were back in spec, and now all is well again. I like the CB, it's easy.

Next was tracing some strange electrical fault on the CBX250 which has stopped the tail light from working, this is stupid but it also makes it a dangerous bike to ride in these winter months when it almost always seems to be dark. The only other bulb that shares the exact same circuit is the sidelight bulb in the headlight which works fine, and the ground is common to all the bulbs in the tail and they all work fine, so it's surely the feed to the tail light. Bending the wires briefly brought it back to life, but then it stopped again so it's a broken wire.. But as I was pulling the wires out of their holding brackety bits it started to work as it should, and I couldn't stop it from working which makes finding the fault impossible. So I've put it all back together, and it still insists on pretending nothing's wrong. It'll wait until I want to use it in the dark and then stop working again, I know it. Bloody CBX. Or I could cut out and replace that last bit of wire just for peace of mind.. Maybe.

In fact, I would say totally pointless using verniers. All you are measuring is the lip on the edge of the disc that doesn't contact the pads. It is probably covered in a layer of surface rust too, making it thicker.

My first thought was that the bulb had blown (obviously), so bought a couple of "pothole resistant" replacements from Halfords, as the vibes of the CBX can be harsh. The first replacement I put in didn't work either, which lead me to disconnect it all and check it out with a multimeter but later on I found that bulb never worked anyway! Cheers, Halfords.

At the female bullet connector on the end of the loom I was getting anywhere from nothing to 1.5v, and then suddenly 11.7v because I'd bent the wiring in a different direction. Ah well, whatever.

A touch on the loose side, but considering how faffy it is trying to get a decent measurement, I'm pretty happy so far!

"Just" need to get the cam cover on and get it to the point I can check / balance the throttle bodies. Tomorrows job.

* Slightly worn gauges would let a 0.39 (made up of 0.30 + 0.09 blades combined). I tried a new Sealey angled gauge and 0.354 would go, and 0.381 would not. So I'm guessing it's probably around 0.37, so hopefully not out of spec.

i actually did something!

The bike has been chained to a telegraph pole since 18th October Embarassed and it was only running with choke....

So today, I stripped and ultrasonic cleaned the carb, fitted new air filter and carb rubber and the motor seems to run better than ever

The clutch lever is stiff as fook and the chain has rusted up a bit so a bit more work needed before I take her out again though...

Bought this screen and attached.
Much cheaper than Givi and gave me best wind protection. I liked.

I now have a nice clean, well lubed chain and a clutch lever that works. Its the wrong clutch lever and it flaps around in a weird fashion so I knocked up some spacers out of a Morris Minor Thermostat gasket (cork) thoroughly soaked in oil. Its not quite right but will do the job until the new lever arrives.

Pumped up the tyres too, but no time for a ride Sad

I've had terminal manfluenza, but today managed to drag myself to the garage, tickled, chocked and kicked the Enfield, let it idle for a few minutes, and then turned it off.

I may be about ready for my Harley.

Today I fought with the rear caliper on the ZX Evil or Very Mad

A job that should have taken around 30 minutes ended up taking 90.... but at least the new seals and pads are in, now I just need to fit it back on the bike and bleed it

Started the Cagiva and took it round the block to make sure it was ok.

Adjusted and oiled the chain on the Big Varadero, good job I did as the spindle nut had come loose, I hate nylon locking nuts.

The baby varadero was wheel out and then back in again.

Bike has been in bits since 5th December, but today she lives!!! Mr. Green

To say I'm happy is an understatement (and relieved!).

Valves re-shimmed, new oil, plugs, oil+air filters, throttle bodies balanced.

https://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/w559/pigeon35/151205%20-%20Striple%2012k%20Service/20151231_143846.resized_zpsfc8z0uyl.jpg

After 3 weeks, I've still not finished the 12k service. Head bearings and rear shock linkages + bearings need stripping & re-greasing. But I'm waiting for a 38mm socket.
Rear calliper needs doing, but as requires removal of wheel am leaving that until the suspension linkage session.

So in the meantime, cleaned the front callipers and freed the 50% non-working pistons (would explain the not so great brakes). Drained + replaced the brake fluid in the reservoir and bled the system.
To be fair, that's 2.25 years, and 11k miles they've not been touched.

Tomorrow, am actually going for a ride Smile

Happy New Year all! Very Happy
