Had the DRZ for 2 years now, and owned only SM's (DRZ x2, KTM 525 & 690) pretty much since I passed my test. Got the itch for summit with more power, cylinders, range and slightly better practicality - along side the DRZ of course, not getting rid of that. Quite like MT-09's or Street Triple. Not interested in touring really, or sports bikes, they don't interest me at all to be honest. Ideally something quite new and modern as well.
Want to get some test rides booked in soon once the weather improves, especially on the MT-09 because the opinion is a bit mixed on the suspension and fuelling.
I mostly ride in the countryside, dodging sheep, gravel, farmers and pot holes (Cumbria, Hexham & Northumberland), very rarely go on the motorway or commute (that's what cars are for) but would like a bike I could use day to day as that is one thing I can't do with the DRZ for fear of it being stolen.

Coming from a DRZ position I think you will prefer an 09.
But you should test ride both as they both have pros and cons
EDIT: Wasn't sure about the weights but according to Yam and Triumph the MT is 6KG heavier than the street, but has a stronger, slightly more powerful motor. It's horses for courses. See what you prefer! ____________________ Yamaha MT-09 - Triple powerrrr |

I went for the Street partly because I thought a litre bike was generally too much for the roads around here. The Fazer handles them ok if you don't get carried away, but I think it would be all too easy to get into trouble, and the ST I thought would be a bit less of a handful. I just don't think you need litre power on such roads to have fun. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Secondly, have you ever phoned up for the price of Street Triple servicing? First valve service is going to cost you the sad side of £500... |
goin rate for most bikes |
Going rate perhaps, but let's say you own the bike for three years or do 15k.
Street Triple you have the initial 600 miler, that's £120, the 1yr (or 6k), that's £150, then 2yr (or 12k - the biggie), £600, 3yr (or 18k) - that's another £150. Total, £1,020. And that's giving the 6k services a lowball, many on the Street Triple forums are reporting figures nearer £200.
Multistrada 1200 - £55 first 600 mile service - £222 first year service - £222 second year - £453 third year. £952 total.
Not a bad deal on those "expensive to run" bikes IMO. Given that the Street Triple valves are every 12k and the new-gen Ducatis are 15k, the longer you own the Ducati, the cheaper it gets.
Not that OP will likely do these kind of mileages, so it's not worth bothering about servicing costs unless you're using something like a CR500 or an SXV550 that needs serviced on a daily basis. ____________________ Biking history so far-

a convincing argument for doin your own servicing ...
frankly all those prices are a rip off considerin the work involved...
and i do know exactly what is involved..
i have voted with my feet and suggest others do the same ____________________ Whatever I post I have no citation and no intention of providing one..
