My CAREFUL NOWs are very small cars (Micra, C1, i10), Audis, white vans, minicabs and police vehicles. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Yeah Vulva's used to have that reputation, but the rise of in-car electronics has given everyone else the chance to be a myopic nob-jockey.
I'd mirror the Borg with my "ones to watch out for". Minicab Prius and Galaxy's at any hour of the day. Then it depends when I go to work. If I'm on the road around 6am it's white vans. When I'm going in after school run time it's females in 4 wheel drives.
Then, once in London, it's pedestrians. It's one of those feckers that's gonna get me in the end. ____________________ 2007 CBF1000 & 2016 CBF1000F - Commuter heaven | 1994 CBR600FR - Awaiting defibrillation |

Mini Metros, Escort vans and Welsh hedges for me.
Volvos used to be the enemy of the 2 wheeled world, but I think most of them got posted through letterboxes at MAG rallies.
Audis and BMWs seem to fly the flag these days. Taxis and mini cabs still have the U-turn weapon well primed too.
Sheep are also high on the list.
Been had by white van man too. Those huge great mirrors seem to block their view.

Those big, boxy volvo estates were the worst in their day.
Three reasons:
1) They were invariably full of more screaming kids than they had seats so the driver was highly distracted.
2) They had a HUGE long bonnet and would invariably stop with the front end of the car sticking four feet out ito the road. (either due to lack of perceprion as to how long their car is or lack of ability to see if anything was coming).
3) Volvo marketed their cars as indestructable tanks in which you couldn't possibly be injured in a crash. As such, the people who bought into that felt no responsability to avoid collisions.
I used to have an Ogri t-shirt where he was dressed in a suit of spiky armour on an armour plated bike fitted with a snowplough blade and carrying a morning star. The caption was "Just when you thought it was safe to drive your volvo.". ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |

I was looking at a Nissan Juke last night and the bonnet is ridiculously long and high for what's essentially a pokey little Micra on stilts. Far higher than the extra height added to the driver's seat, which is set back into the cramped interior. The A pillars are typically thick (they don't appear wide from the paintwork on the outside, but they're a mile deep) and the wing mirrors are big old things too.
I couldn't think of many ways they could have decreased visibility of what's right in front of the car, or what's approaching from the front quarters, but I'm sure they'll come up with some. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Always seems to be vans for me. Had one reverse into me, had a van do a u-turn on me, and clipped a van in the last spill (although the last one was 100% my fault).
Bus drivers seem to hate bikers, had a few deliberately drive at me |

It seems to be a feature of modern cars. Both my Zafira and Meriva absolutely require significant lateral head movement to see round the elephant-leg pillars. Crash protection makes crashes more likely, good result. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

In central London It's Buses/Coaches -> Hackney Cab Drivers -> Mini cab cab mate? drivers -> Cyclists. Everything else is usually moving too slowly to be a real risk. ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |
