I was in the same situation, and attempted it without glasses (to this forums displeasure ). I actually read the plate wrong (read an M as a W or something), there was only one car in the car park so I guess there wasn't another to try with or the examiner didn't care... or couldn't read it himself
Had a similar experience on my car test, although he got me to read another plate. Personally if your visions borderline (as mine is) I'd attempt it without, as you don't want it to be a condition of your license. If you're really struggling put them on but maybe style it out (like you forgot to put them on or something). |

The practical driving test eyesight test
At the start of your practical driving test you have to correctly read a number plate on a parked vehicle.
If you can’t, you’ll fail your driving test and the test won’t continue. DVLA will be told and your licence will be revoked.
When you reapply for your driving licence, DVLA will ask you to have an eyesight test with DVSA. This will be at a driving test centre. If you’re successful, you’ll still have to pass the DVSA standard eyesight test at your next practical driving test.

2 minute hate seems to be rolling on a bit here.
It's a reasonable enough question. OP's not suggesting that he'll ride without corrective vision, just that he doesn't want to have it on his license. Consider the case of doing the test with glasses then getting laser correction - how would you get the code removed?
I'd be honest with the DVSA Derek. Try without, then put them on. I mean, how else do you know that you need glasses? That's what the eyesight test is meant to find out. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

If your eyesight is borderline needing glasses to drive then you really ought to be wearing glasses.
You need it to be 6/12 (which is 20/40 vision in non-metric) which is pretty bad vision... if its near that you should be wearing glasses or contacts whether you legally need to or not.
At my most recent 5-yearly ophthalmic review for my medical renewal, my uncorrected vision was 6/6-1 OD, 6/10-1 OS... and 6/6 OU.
Outside the limits for flying, so I require glasses for that, but well within the limits for driving.
My glasses give me a corrected vision of 6/5 OD, 6/5 OS, 6/4-1 OU... i.e. "better than 20/20 vision", and it makes such a difference. Even though my eyesight is marginally bad and much better than required for driving, wearing glasses is a massive improvement, and I do so when driving and riding now as well. Through choice, not obligation.
I cannot imagine wanting to driving or ride without glasses if my eyesight was anywhere near as bad as 6/12. ____________________ Current Bike: 1999 Honda CB600 FX Hornet
