Ok so I needed to change the cylinder head on my lexmoto vixen 125, all went well with swapping over valves etc, but... When it came to me putting the fucker back together, one of the push rods fell straight through into the engine. What is the best way of getting it out? If I take the cylinder block off will there be enough access to get it out or am I gunna have to split the crankcase? Also any suggestions as to why it fell through in the first place? Cheers

One of these things?

Pushrods are comparatively big and therefore if it can fall in you can extract it out the same hole... usually.

It's when you drop stuff like shims into the engine. You have to split the engine. IIRC GX thought he'd lost a shim into his engine (turned out it had fallen into his pocket). He ended up tearing the engine apart.

Assuming that the push-rod is steel of course and not ally !. If it is ally but with a steel 'cap' you could have a chance.

By "engine" I assume you mean combustion chamber? If you can't get it with the magnet on a stick, just whip the head off and get it out, you've already had the head off once, so it should be a breeze.

I'm guessing that OP has managed to miss the cup on the cam follower and drop the rod down past the gear.

So yes, if a magnet on a stick doesn't fish it out, that's a strip down.

Having spent far too much time re-shimming modern engines, can you set a date so that we can all come and watch how people recovered from fuck-ups back in the ninteenth century?
