 |
|
I'm getting so sick of these 'storms' now. I wish they wouldn't name them as well!
Bike is on the side stand on a driveway that slopes down towards the road away from the house, leaning towards the road as well to try and put as much lean on as possible. In hindsight I should've taken the blasted cover off, it probably lifted it up and over the side stand as it did fall towards the road.
So, it's horribly dark and I can't see what's going on but I know the left indicator has smashed, clutch lever felt like it was able to move and not stuck, both mirrors have been knocked loose. There's a slight smell of what I think is petrol. What other things should I look for in the morning when it's a bit more light? |

if it's a bike with carbs then it's likely to have dribbled some fuel out of the carb bowls and might take a bit longer to fire up when you try to start it.
I keep mine in a sheltered corner (garden) leaning towards the building ____________________ Looking to pass your CBT / Bike tests in Bury Lancashire? try www.focusridertraining.co.uk Would recommend.

I'm bored of this wind too. Shouting "fuck off you bastard" at the sky doesn't seem to have worked  ____________________ GP-100 -> CB250RS -> CBX550F2 (pause) KR1S -> RD350YPVS -> ZX6-R (pause) CD200 ->Mash 400 -> T100 (current) & (R1100RT scrapped pile o' shite) (CB250 Nighthawk - SORN in shed) Meteor 350 (current) |

I really want to just not ever bother with a cover, but I'm too scared somebody will come and take a fancy to a 125.
I don't mind doing the maintenance to clean it etc if it stays in the rain.
Or why can't they just make nice heavy 125s |

One thing to beware of if a bike has been on its side for a while is hydraulic locking.
Some bikes are more prone to it than others but any of them can do it.
Essentially oil or liquid fuel gets into the barrel above the piston by one of a variety of possible routes.
Liquids are (for this purpose) incompressable so if you try to turn over the engine with an engine barrel full of liquid, one of two things will happen:
1) It won't turn over.
2) It does turn over and the conrod bends.
Case 2 is bad news.
Best thing to do is whip the plugs out and turn the engine over on the starter. If a whole load of oil/fuel comes out, you just saved your bike.
If that is a real pain in the arse to do, remove the end plug from the crankcase cover and turn the engine over by hand with a socket with the ignition off. Once it's done two full turns without any strong resistance, you're safe enough to go ahead and start it.
If even that is too much like hard work, put it in top gear and bump it over backwards with the ignition off. Again, two turns of the engine and you're good to go. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Not sure really what I would be looking for, 600 to be fair would probably be enough for me when it comes round to it.
The bike was on its side for about 2 minutes as I threw on my shoes and ran out to get it back upright as soon as I heard the crash, don't know if that constitutes long or not.
I'm not in London tomorrow so probably won't be able to try and get anything sorted until Wednesday at the earliest, I'm also not very handy with them yet being a new biker so a lot of what you suggested has literally gone straight over my head
The gusts here have been really bad, there's bits and pieces all over the roads and trees at precarious angles, nothing seems to have come down yet (bar my bike of course) |

There's a guy filters down the A2 wearing one of those POLITE vests and he's obviously never read it himself because the motherfucker absolutely refuses to move over and let faster bikes pass. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'
