I'm off for a 650 mile run this weekend on the Bullet.
Having: Changed the oil pumps, re-routed the crankcase breather, reset the points and timing, stripped and cleaned the carb, fabricated and fitted a new throttle cable, changed the oil, fitted a GPZ clutch lever in place of the standard front brake lever and fitted bar muffs.
What could possibly go wrong?
My bet is on the 5mm allen key I've misplaced turning up irretrievably jammed and in something essential.
Or it shitting out all its oil onto the back tyre then seizing the crank causing it to skid off the road, crash and catch fire. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |

Not sure if I'm remembering this correctly but I'm sure I saw a story of you replacing a head gasket in a bus shelter... not 100% sure though |
Wow, didn't know bus shelters needed head gaskets... ____________________ FZR400 (blown engine), ZXR750 (blown engine), ZX6R (accident), CBR600 which had engine issues after which I learned to change gear..., CBR900, CBR924 (stolen), CB600, CB1300 (everything blew up), BMW K1300GT (written off, hit from rear while stationary), Bandit 1250 for a couple of months, Triumph Sprint ST 1050 (nicked) and somewhere in there, I wrote off a Ducati 748 at Cadwell. |

I`ve always been fairly confident in my own work, /I`m still here
Although I did once work on a set of carbs and replaced them on the bike, only for the carbs to leak and the bike catch fire
Luckily I was near a jug of water and the kitchen tap. ____________________ I am the sum total of my own existence, what went before makes me who I am now! |

I used to be worried, until I had the front brake calliper fall off at 40mph 1.5 miles from home a few days after I fitted new pads. Had forgotten to tighten bolts holding it to the forks.
After that, I bought a torque wrench and now make sure know I've done everything up. |

The filler cap? Come on OP, I was expecting to read stuff about brakes, wheels, engine rebuilds, etc. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

I'm more cautious when I first go for a ride and usually feel like something is wrong or sounds wrong. Doesn't help that the engine sounds like its running on nuts and bolts, or maybe it is |

I did have my concerns 40 years ago when I first started to ride a bike and taking a spanner to my 125 for the first time. But now I have absolutely no qualms about having an engine apart and doing big ends and main bearings. So brakes and suspension servicing is an easy job in my eyes

No, because now I check the brake pistons are all the way back out before I go for a ride.
Honestly I'd be more nervous about handing it over to a mechanic. ____________________ Honda CB500S |

I never feel more alive than when im pressing the starter for the first time after a valve adjustment
I took a bike for a new front tyre fitting, not long after id fitted new pads, we found out one of my calipers bolts were only in finger tight oops ____________________ GPZ500 sold ~ CBR600FS-2 sold ~ ZX6R sold ~ Street Triple R |
