I would bet on a fuel problem, since it fired on starting fluid.
Gummed-up carbs, stuck float valves, blocked jets, etc.
Worth a strip-down to check? ____________________ Honda Varadero XL125(V8)

How can you change three spark plugs on an engine that only has two?
Anyway, you got no fuel pressure. Turn the ignition on then turn the red switch off then on again a few times. Every time you turn it on you should hear the fuel pump run for 2 seconds. If you don't then either the fuel pump is stuck (unlikely), the fuse is blown (more likely) or if you have an alarm/immobiliser, it has a failed relay (most likely). ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Is each cylinder twin plug? Or did that come later? ____________________ I want your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle.

First, thanks to all who responded. Really appreciate it!
I don't know how to respond to each post individually so I will try to do it here.
So, doggone: My bike was stored outside, but it had a bike cover on every day. I have several cats around the house so I highly doubt it was a mouse or something chewing through wires. It has never been on salty roads and I think the fact that all lights and other electrical components seem to work fine that corrosion is probably not the culprit. I have hooked the battery up to a battery charger and car battery (while car was off) and I get the same result as with charged bike battery.
Taught2B: I think you might be onto something. When I removed the fuel tank, I expected gas to leak out the lines that I pulled off, but not a drop did. Also its a 2007 so does that mean it doesn't have carbs? What would be the best method of fixing clogged lines?
Paddy: Ditto. I think.
Roger: I'm not sure exactly what five quarter means. I think I hear the fuel pump running though when I turn key to start and switch to on position.
Taught2B again: No codes displayed, but fuel lines are starting to sound suspicious.
MystRider: I did this a lot over the past few days. Also hooked it up to car and cranked repeatedly. No go. And Yeah, I gave it a good bit of throttle as well.
Pete: Pretty sure it has four, two for each cylinder. I have tried your suggestion many times over and can hear the fuel pump running. Is the failed relay only if the pump is not running?
Underrated: Pretty sure both cylinders are twin plug. Not 100% positive thoough.
Roger: I was trying to avoid answering this because its a little bit embarrassing, but honestly, I don't know where the fourth plug is and can't find it.
Thanks guys! Hope to hear back! |

Nobody is. It's like crop circles, or how the Egyptians built the pyramids.
2007 will definitely be fuel injection.
Your fuel pump is inside the tank (location and removal video here). Unless it's pumping, fuel shouldn't come out.
I'd disconnect the bottom of the hose, put it in a jar then turn the ignition on. The pump should run and fuel should come out. If not, the pump or its electrical connection is in a sad way. If it does, then I'd move on to the injectors.
I'd always suspect electrical connections first. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Pop the fuel line, give it a lube with some oil and push it back on firmly. Make sure it clicks home. I remember someone having a problem with one of those where they thought it was fully home but it wasn't. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Yeah, this is about it. Also, I was hoping for someone else to respond since you thought it had two spark plugs and that the carbs were gummed up. But if you think you have something I appreciate it. |

Well done, insulting the one person who could probably help you more than any other. Regularly helps others such that he's given up time to help strangers at the side of the road.
We've all made that mistake. I once scoffed at someone having 4 spark plugs sold to them at service for an NTV600. I was soon put right!
