KTM UK still have it listed at £4200, so which "they" is dumping stock?
The YZF-R125 sold 1700 in its first year at the trough of the sales slump.
The RC125 sold 223 in its first year during a sales recovery. Against that, the YZF-R125 still sold 1069 (ABS and non) bikes.
The KTM might just be too expensive, too fussy, dealers are too few and far between, or a combination of all of the above. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

The 11kW YZF-R125 is £200 more with ABS, sticker price. I imagine that the vast majority will be bought on finance, so that'll be pennies a week. It also looks more like a legit racebike rather than like a naked with a weird fairing and light thrown on the front. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

What I want to know is why didn't the Aprilia RS4 sell? It's got one of the best 15bhp engines, better looks and paint jobs, and a quick shifter? It's really crap compared to the early better finished RS125's before they went a bit cheap looking and restricted to hell, but for a 4t it's not a bad 125 I'd say? |
I remember the MCN 125 shootout review not being that glowing for the Aprilia, also the same engine is in the Derbi Terra/Mulhacen/GPR so should be pretty common.
If I look at the place I park my bike in Manchester as a straw poll, the common parked are.. BMW (GS) x2, Yamaha (T-Max, XJ6 and a MT03), Derbi (Terra Adventure), Susuki (Bergman, SV650, Bandit), Lexmoto's, KRS? and some 125 Scoots from brands I've never heard of, and my Honda CBF. You get infrequent visitors, Triumph Tigers in the summer, a Gladius, KTM RC 390, Duke 125, the odd Kwak
Never seen an Aprilia parked up.

For example, Dave70, wherever he is now, had the YZF-R125 since new and has done tonnes of miles on it, toured around the British Isles and apart from top end speed, has done all that the bigger bikes have done. Even with a reduced fuel bill.
Interesting. |
Engine wise I don't see why not, the electrics I can see being an issue, all that salt and cold, are they designed for the British climate?
I wish the A1 laws were changed slightly, to allow bikes which can sustain motorway speeds. Say at 19 you can drive 250 class bikes with up to 25hp, or even better an overlap with the bikes to take the A2 test allowing easy progression up the licence class. |
