Thanks for this comment, I don't know much about the different engine designs, I do like to accelerate to the speed limit nice and hard sometimes when I get the chance, but very rarely use more than 50% throttle and usually ride around town and 50mph roads |
I would draw up a shortlist, go to a bunch of local dealers, have a few test rides (don't worry about ticket price - you're just getting ideas) and compare them to your CBR. The ride down and back on yours will be a good reference for comparison.
You seem to be suggesting round town/commuting, sometimes two up, but like to give it the beans from time to time. Also you seem to want a faired bike, and looking for a bargain.
Hmm, first bike that sprung to mind for me was the Suzuki GSX650f. I've seen some corkers out there for not a lot of money as they seem to get forgotten and aren't as loved as some others.
I think you'd find it fast enough, but has a good sized pillion seat and good ergos for around town riding. (Check out https://cycle-ergo.com )
Just my tuppeneth tho. TBH there's loads of bikes that fit your requirements, so try as many of them as you can! ____________________ 2015 Triumph Street Triple - 2015 Honda CB500F - 1976 CB400 Four (Stripped - and undergoing restoration) |

Your post made an incredible amount of sense and you seemed to grasp what I was after pretty quickly ! I'll take a look at your suggestions, thank you! |

Then I'd definitely encourage you to try the ER.
It makes more torque (and thus oomph) than the 600 IL4s up to about 10,000 rpm. InB4 G and "gearing", but unless you enjoy riding the CBR in low gear with the engine spinning fast, you'll get more instant roll-on acceleration from the twin.
I enjoyed trying a CBR600F4, it had a lovely smooth engine that wanted to rev and rev. But it did need kicked down and spanked to make progress, only becoming really fun at the point where I ran out of nerve.
When I got back on my 800 twin it was such a relief to have access to all that low down torque again.
Try a few different bikes to see what you like, it's fun: I've still got triples to scope out. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

The ER6f and the ZXR6 are similar in that they both have two wheels and come in green.
The ZX6R is a track bike (there's a lap timer on it) with lights and indicators.

The ER6f is a general purpose road bike in a nice looking frock.

For general purpose road use, I'd go for the bike that was designed for that purpose. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I've both of these bikes, the ER6f first, now I have a CBR.
I would have thought 0-80 times to be about the same, the CBR just keeps going a bit more. As said, the er6f will do about 130 indicated and the cbr will do about 150.
Just on a personal note, I found the er6f easier to work on and wheel around and once it had a decent pipe and remap it sounded really really nice. however... I prefer the CBR. It feels comfier, more planted, feels faster and has a centre stand. With the CBR I feel nice and low within the bike whereas I felt perched on top of the er6f. Also, I could never see out of the mirrors.
Ah, something else to consider. There doesn't seem to be a huge choice of tyres for the CBR, I'm not sure if I've got weird sized wheels or current tyres on it.
As others have said, get out and have a ride on some. |
