See, back when I was a depressive having my tantrums I could have controlled them if I knew how, was aware of what they were, and had the inclination. I like the test of whether they would talk to their boss like that, and if so it's probably serious. If they can restrain it with the boss, then you are just the verbal whipping post.
However, I've also seen the hypo's before, and even started measuring my blood sugar as I was getting such weird low energy periods and considered it could be that (depression seems more likely).

I know about this, it's me - been T1 for 25 years now and when blood sugar is low, you really do flip to a different person completely. 15 minutes later after some sugar ... right as rain.
Oddly it's not the low that causes it, it's the speed of the drop, much the same as when you have really high blood sugar.

Yeh, I've seen this in action. Sometimes it is hard not to be patronising, almost the equivalent of "she's on the blob"... "oh ignore him, he's just having one of his turns."
Which is even worse, actually.
I would rather people take every word I say seriously than minimise what I am saying by simply writing it all off as sick raving... ____________________ Top cat

Were people in the past regarded as just cunts, or does it happen now because 'I'm ill, I've got <Insert latest fashion illness here> |
It's just a case of the better understanding we have of the brain nowadays, and how it functions, and the deviations from the "norm" that we can describe more accurately in physiological terms I think. We tend to label any of those deviations as an illness, but who has perfection when talking about chemical imbalances etc? Anyway, it's not "justification", it's just description. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

It seems the debate has moved on. The OP mentioned hunger, booze etc affecting behaviour, my first reply addressed this. However clinical mental health disorders are different. For people with mental illness it is, obviously, not a simple matter of self-control.
A wider issue mentioned above is the in some opinion, over-diagnosis of mental disorder.
I came across "oppositional defiance disorder" a while back. Well in my day that was known as being a gobby, awkward little shite and the prescribed treatment was a slap ____________________ Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you're probably right |

So we're supposed to stay on topic now? Jeez, some people are no fun ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

How many daily medicated people are there in the uk?
I've had similar experiences to Garth when taking prescribed medication for an illness and it's horrible.
There must be 1000's of uk residents taking pills to get up, pills to calm down, pills for an errection, pills to get to sleep etc every single day.
It's my belief that medication is responsible for more fucked up minds than supposed mental health conditions ever were!
There's even apparently Physco's, serial killer's, peadophiles etc all walking the street every day that are only able to do so with any normal behaviour by being pumped full of cocktails of drugs on a daily basis. |
