So I managed to remove the meta from the ninja a couple of days ago, bridged a couple of pins and got the bike running (when I was told which needed bridged my reply was "is that it?"). Anyway the bike started instantly with no backfire, so I thought it was sorted Very Happy

Yesterday I went to start the bike only for it to turn over once then the lights all dimmed again, so checked the voltage and that was at 12.48, I found the CBR uses the same battery so I checked the voltage on that and that was 12.55, so I switched them over and the bike started fine. Later in the day the same thing happened Evil or Very Mad

So now I'm thinking it could be a problem with the starter solenoid, which after looking on ebay, it would appear that they are the same for the ninja and cbr (unless that was just a stock image), anyway the question is would I be able to use the solenoid from the CBR for a couple of days to find out if that was the fault all along?

This is the problem I'm having starting the bike (with the exception of the battery going flat, although when the alarm was removed it did start normally without charging): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MD0hPcdNFXM

Tl;dr, Ninja is still fucked, removed alarm, swapped battery, can I use the starter solenoid from the CBR for a couple of days to see if that fixes the problem

Datatool? Those things seem to be more of hassle to owners than a deterrent to thieves. Laughing

Solenoids are just a relay. Two big amperage terminals, two low amperage ones (maybe three if there's some clutch/sidestand switch witchcraft). Should be swappable.

I'd say so.... ~14.6 when idling

Roger, at least I know it wasn't the alarm, but I think I'll leave it off the bike for now anyway....

I had this same issue on my r6 when I removed the meta alarm, real frustrating after looking around I discovered that it was shorting out on the frame and bypassing components, it might be agood idea to look on the internet for a wiring diagram and back trace the wires from the alarm and do a volt test

What does the voltage go up to when you rev it? Could be over charging if the regulator is faulty.

I assume you've checked all of the earth and starter circuit power connections for corrosion or damage?

Ah, right. Tef's posts have inculcated an ability to skip straight to the tl;dr at the end. Whistle

I feel uncomfortable commenting on things I know nothing about......post history does not support this..... but particularly when it comes to electrics.

But if putting a different battery in was fine, until it wasn't, but it's charging correctly (14.6v I think you mentioned) then is it not worth doing a leak test?

Sounds like maybe something is drawing power all the time and taking the wow factor out the battery.

I know almost nothing about electrics though.
