I have a Varadero XL 125 which I've had for 6 months.
It's always had a delay between pushing the indicator switch and the light coming on, but recently it's getting to the point where they will often not come on at all even when holding the switch sideways.

Can anyone suggest if this might be the switch itself (WD-40 used to provide a temporary slight improvement) or the relay?

Thanks in advance Smile

I would suspect the relay. However if the switch casing comes apart easily it's worth a clean up inside and check for any broken bits.

Check that you have the correct wattage for the front and rear bulbs, although if they were wrong, I would expect the lamps to come on as soon as you hit the switch and not flash at all!

A faulty switch would usually cause intermittent faults, so if all the connector and bulb contacts are good and clean, you probably have a duff flasher relay.

I could just be a build up of crud inside the switch. Blast a bit of wd40 in there and work the switch from one side to the other a few times, see if that sorts it.

Mine did this. It would work fine for a bit... then the problem would return...

Yup, same here. It helped but it doesn't last long at all. When it went in for MOT the mechanic apparently dismantled it and lubricated and it was fixed but it didn't take long at all to regress to being worse than before.

I'll get a new relay and see if it helps.

Thanks, I'll be sure to check back with an answer or more questions Smile

my vtr does this, most of them do, usually contact cleaner sorts it but it returns so just indicate early.

Right so I got a new relay and it didn't help at all. Bummer.

So I took the switch apart, and prodded about a bit and the issue was that the spring which resets the switch when you cancel had become weak, and because everything was a bit stiff, it meant that it wasn't pushing the contacts against the switch when triggering the indicator, but going over a bump or sometimes pulling the switch control towards me would.

After removing all crud and giving everything a wiggle it now appears to be working perfectly. Anyone want a varadero relay for a fiver?

Thanks for your help as always BCF Smile
